Synopsis[]

Part I[]

Sally and Tails tell Sonic to stop dancing while they are gathering Medical Berries. Sonic explains he's not dancing, but some ants got in his shoes that are making him constantly itch. He discovers that the ants are Rotor's. Rotor comes over to take his ants back and says he likes to watch them in their farm. Sally insists the group to keep picking berries as they are on the outskirts of Robotropolis. Unbeknownst to the Knothole Freedom Fighters, they themselves are being observed by Robotnik and Snively.

Attacking the Freedom Fighters with a portable roboticizer, Robotnik shoots at Sally but Sonic grabs her out of the way. Robotnik then sees Rotor looking for his ants. As he is about to hit Rotor, the entire group is pulled up into a giant metal hose descending from a large spaceship. Arriving inside, Robotnik tries to escape, but is stopped by the massive alien Car-Heem, who introduces himself as a scientist and collector that intends to study the captured Mobians.

Part II[]

Robotnik tries to sell a guidebook on him to Car-Heem to leave the spaceship, but the alien says he is an inferior species, and he should be disposed. Deciding that they can't allow Robotnik to be destroyed, the Freedom Fighters convince Car-Heem that he's part of their group, a concept that intrigues the solitary alien. Placing them in a recreation of the Great Forest, he leaves them alone. Sonic then distracts Car-Heem by asking him to get food. While he is away, he tries to break through the glass with a Sonic Spin, but it doesn't work.

Over the course of the next several days, they make plans to escape, convincing Robotnik that he needs to act like a Freedom Fighter to avoid being disposed of by Car-Heem. Eager to save his own skin, Robotnik takes the Freedom Fighter oath despite his embarrassment and Snively's amusement. Later that evening, Sonic thinks about Rotor's ants and why he keeps them. He concludes for Car-Heem to get rid of them, they have to stop being interesting. When Rotor asks how they will get out, Robotnik says he will construct a vehicle to help them escape. Once out of the habitat, they will fly the Umbilicus back to Mobius.

Part III[]

Sonic fakes being dead, prompting Car-Heem to open the habitat to remove him, allowing Sonic to run inside his space suit and distract him. Robotnik then flies the Freedom Fighters to the control panel in his makeshift copter. After they land, Robotnik reveals his treacherous intentions: he opens the ship's door, sending Car-Heem and Sonic flying out into space. Rotor then notices that Car-Heem's suit is protecting him and Sonic in space. After grabbing Robotnik, Rotor extends the ship's tube, rescuing Car-Heem and Sonic. Once back inside, the alien thanks the Freedom Fighters for recusing him and admits he was the "inferior being" for the way he treated species different from his own. Car-Heem agrees to return the group to Mobius and collect non-living things from now on.

Back on Mobius, Rotor releases all his pet ants, only for them to end up crawling onto the other Freedom Fighters.

Trivia[]

  • The Umbilicus may be a nod to Mystery Science Theater 3000, in which the Umbilicus was the tube-like tether that kept the Satellite of Love chained to Deep 13 and allowed items to be transported between the two. It was introduced in season six, which was reaching its end when this comic was released.
  • Sonic's arms are blue on page five.
  • Page 13's colors are not shaded.

The Vol-Ant'-Teer[]

Synopsis[]

On his way to bed, Antoine is scared by a shadow, which upon investigation turns out to belong to a worried Tails outside. When questioned, Tails reveals to Antoine that he left a Power Ring that Sonic left in his care somewhere and is now afraid that Sonic would never let him go on another mission. Antoine agrees to retrieve it for Tails, but when Tails says he left it in a backpack in Robotropolis, he becomes fearful of the task. Nevertheless, Antoine insists on going alone and asks for a map. Awakened by the conversation, Bunnie emerges from her hut as Antoine leaves and ask Tails what is going on. After Tails explains the situation, Bunnie disappears from the room.

Antoine enters Robotropolis through the sewers, and unbeknownst to him, is nearly run down by a robot car when he stops to examine a map. A steel girder comes flying out of nowhere to stop the robot, while the seemingly oblivious Antoine moves on. Locating the building that Tails left the Power Ring on top of, he begins climbing a ladder to the top and is spotted by SWATbots. They begin climbing up to him, but the ladder falls after Antoine reaches safety. A badly damaged SWATbot tries to make contact with Robotnik, but loses power before he can reveal the identity of their attacker, which is hinted at by the shadow on the wall the ladder had fallen from. Detecting Antoine's presence, Robotnik and Snively attempt to run into him using a hovercraft while Antoine is making his way through a large pipe. The pipe is then lifted out of the way, leading Robotnik and Snively to crash into a river of toxic sludge.

Arriving safely back in Knothole, Antoine presents the ring to Tails, who thanks him and says that this will be their little secret. Bunnie, who reappeared and congratulated Antoine for his bravery, is then thanked by Antoine for their "little secret" - apparently, he was aware of her actions to protect him. Embarrassed, Bunnie is then surprised as Antoine kisses her on the cheek as thanks.
