Synopsis[]
Sally Acorn is told by Antoine that he was selected to go on a mission to find Elias Acorn, Sally having no clue that she ever had a brother before he appeared. Sally confronts her dad King Max Acorn, yelling that he's been harsh (Sonic the Hedgehog Issue #55) demanding that Sally marries Antoine (Sonic the Hedgehog Issue #60) and keeping her own brother a secret. King Acorn confesses that her brother was on the Floating Island where her mum was found. Annoyed Sally goes to investigate.
On the Floating Island, Knuckles is found by Catweazle who tells Knuckles that his mother is getting remarried and that he spotted egg shaped pods that he believes are Overlanders. It turns out that Catweazle is pointing at Sally's ship where Nicole is guiding her down to the Floating Island. On the monitor, Thunderhawk and Sojourner notice the signal from the ship is either the King or his emissary.
Knuckles investigating the ship finds Sally who yells at him. Knuckles kidding around says Sally is having a bad hair day. According to Sally, she fell into a chemical vat while on a mission and it changed her fur orange and hair yellow, and then pink and black. Sally goes off to find the Brotherhood of Haven to find her brother, but Spectre and Deo Volente appear before both of them and take them to Haven. Arriving at Haven, he introduces Thunderhawk, Sojourner, Sabre and Locke. Sally discusses with them what to do about Robo Robotnik, and about her mother's critical condition.
Later, Knuckles find Sally and both discuss about their relatives. Knuckles says that Sally will always be his good friend, especially when they were growing up. Sally still mad about the secrets, leaves the island but Knuckles and Sally both thinking that they will always remain friends.

Trivia[]
- One of the in-jokes is the fact that Sally fell into a chemical bath on a mission that turned her fur orange, and her hair yellow. This is the color she had in the earliest Sonic mini-series before the main. Sally then scrubbing the chemicals out of her fur and hair, she was changed again with pink fur and black hair. She appeared like this in the rest of the Sonic mini-series and the classic issues of the Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series until her fur and hair was changed brown. The editor even puts in this joke "And you thought we colored Sally wrong back then".
- Despite this, in Sonic Firsts, released two years earlier, all instances of Sally's different colors had been recolored to match her standard brown colors.
- This story was written in response to a request from Art Mawhinney, who was at the time preparing to leave the Archie Sonic comics in pursuit of more work in animation. Mawhinney requested that he be able to make his "swan song" in the Knuckles the Echidna comic, and writer Ken Penders agreed, making Sally Acorn a central focus in the story as a callback to Mawhinney's earlier work in the Princess Sally miniseries.[1]

Synopsis[]
Knuckles complains about the coloring in his comic books, saying that it was lousy and gave no mood. J. F. Gabrie then tells Knuckles to talk about his problems with the colorist, Frank Gagliardo, nicknamed "The Creature" as he was very big and tough. After Gagliardo beats Knuckles up, Gabrie asks if he'd like to add anything to his coloring. Knuckles replies with "Yeff...I need a glaff otter to wash 'em down" (Yes...I need a glass of water to wash them down), meaning Gagliardo forced his work down Knuckles' throat.

"Ken Penders: Another factor that resulted in more change was artist Art Mawhinney, who had been working on Sonic since the early days, was offered more work in the animation field than he knew what to do with. However, he wanted to make his swan song in the pages of Knuckles, and so I came up with the book-length MY SPECIAL FRIEND as an appropriate send-off. Since Art and I worked together earlier on both the Princess Sally and Knuckles mini-series (along with numerous Sonic stories), I felt it only fitting to include the beloved Princess as a special guest-star."
