A quiet, little coastal city known for its windmills, old architecture and sundaes! It's secretly the hiding place of the mystical Gaia Gate.
— The World of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog #281
Apotos is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a small coastal town in Eurish, and a part of the United Federation. It is known for its windmills, old architecture and sundaes, and is home to the Gaia Gate.
During the Shattered World Crisis, Metal Sonic traveled to Apotos and found Gregorios. He was about to interrogate him regarding information on Dark Gaia when Dr. Eggman contacted him with new instructions regarding the Chaos Emerald Championship. Left behind, Gregorios realized that he had to break tradition and contact his associates regarding the matter, and later contacted the Freedom Fighters regarding their efforts to restore the planet. However, their rendezvous was somewhat delayed, partly because Sonic had to deal with Eggman and his patrol of Egg Swats in the Blue Coast Zone. Their battle was interrupted by the arrival of the Ifrit through a Genesis Portal, but Sonic was able to drive it back through with help from Silver the Hedgehog.
Eventually, after engaging yet another force of the Badnik Horde, Sonic and his associates Antoine D'Coolette and Chip found Gregorios, who showed them the Gaia Gate and explained how it could be used to access the Gaia Temples if they collected the Gaia Keys. He then provided them with a list of families who had been entrusted with the artifacts, and the heroes parted ways with him. Unfortunately, they were then forced to deal with a Dark Gaia Titan that had invaded, though help arrived in the form of Knuckles, Bunnie D'Coolette, and Amy Rose. They soon dispatched the Titan and recovered a shard of the Master Emerald, and the information provided by Gregorios opened the way for Knuckles and Amy to hunt down other fragments of the gem using the Mystic Melody.
Points of interest
- Apotos is based on the Town Stage with the same name from the video game Sonic Unleashed, where it and Empire City are the only two locations without a Gaia Temple.
