Antlions are based of the insect of same name in its larva form. They have a round, dark blue torso with a yellow lower bottom and gray spikes on the side, along with red claws. They also have a round yellow head with cyan eyes and red mandibles.
In the Wii U version and PC version of Sonic Lost World, Antlions are found in Desert Ruins Zone 4 and Sky Road Zone 4. When the player is using Yellow Drill underground, Antlions will come charging in from different sides or remain stationary. The player can easily drill into their heads to defeat them, but touching their Bumper tails will bounce Sonic backwards. In Sky Road Zone 4, Antlions are obstacles during the sand sliding sections, where they cannot be defeated. In the Speed Race mode's rendition of Desert Ruins Zone 4, Antlions are found lurking at the bottom of quicksand pits, occasionally extending their bodies in an attempt to catch the Virtual Hedgehog if the player attempts to pass through lower routes.
In the Nintendo 3DS version, Antlions appear only in Desert Ruins Zone 2 and Sky Road Zone 1. Here, Antlions attack in different patterns, either digging around in circles or linear patterns. However, some Antlions will charge towards Sonic if they catch him behind them. Some of Antlions can also get above the ground. The player has to use the Yellow Drill on the Antlions' heads to defeat them.
- The Antlions bear a strong resemblance to the Sonic the Hedgehog CD Badnik with the same name. It should also be noted that the Master Robot boss Pit Master from the Master System and Game Gear version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 bears a resemblance to the Antlion as well.
