The ancient tablet^[2] (古代石板^[3], kodai sekiban^?, lit. "ancient slate") is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is an object that can be caught during the Fishing Spot minigame.

Description[]

The ancient tablet is a weathered stone tablet with engravings that match the glyphs seen throughout the Starfall Islands. It is said to contain the same message in three different languages, including the glyphs, meaning it could potentially be used to decipher them.^[1]

Overview[]

In Sonic Frontiers, the ancient tablet is one of many collectables to be earned in Fishing Spot minigame hosted by Big the Cat. When catching one, an ancient tablet is worth of different Treasure Tokens based on the Fishing Spot: twenty-four tokens in Eastern Fishing Spot and forty eight tokens in Southern Fishing Spot.^[2]^[4]

Trivia[]

The ancient tablet appears to be based on the Rosetta Stone, a historical stone tablet that also included the same message in three different languages and was an important tool to help historians decipher ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.^[5] The Rosetta Stone itself is a piece of an even larger message.^[6]
In the Sonic Twitter Takeover #6, it is revealed that it says, "According to all known laws of aviation, there's no way a hedgehog should be able to run fast. Its quills are too short to get its fat little body off the ground. The hedgehog, of course, runs fast anyway, because hedgehogs don't care what humans think is impossible." This references the opening text to The Bee Movie, which is commonly made fun of.
Despite the fact that the official description says that there are three languages, the tablet is inscribed with the same ancient language used by the Koco.
