The ancient gate is a gimmick from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a round door found on the Starfall Islands, used to prevent the player from accessing an area until they meet certain conditions, such as completing an Island Mystery.

Description

Ancient gates are massive, round doors, usually found as part of a structure. They appear to have a mainly black color scheme, with flowing blue details, which turn cyan when opening the gate.

Overview

The ancient gate can be encountered numerous times on the Starfall Islands. In the tutorial section of Kronos Island, two ancient gates can be found. The first one requires the player to defeat Ninja in order to open it, while the second one can be unlocked by solving this Island Mystery.

On Chaos Island, an ancient gate is preventing the access to the Pinball Minigame. In order to open it, Sonic will have to approach the gate, reacting to the cyber-energy in his body.

Two ancient gates are also present on Ouranos Island. The first one can be found as part of the structure that contains the White Chaos Emerald's Vault and can be opened by completing the second Hacking Mission on Ouranos Island, which is unlocked after gathering five of the Chaos Emeralds scattered across the island. The second one, found in the northwest regions, can be opened by solving the Harmonic rod Island Mystery in order to access 4-7.
