Amy Rose is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series and its spin-offs produced by Paramount Pictures. She is a pink anthropomorphic alien hedgehog that came out of nowhere to save Sonic from an army of Metal Sonic robots.
Concept and creation[]
Amy Rose was initially planned to be a major character in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but it was decided that there wasn't enough time in the film to introduce her alongside Shadow's story without doing one a disservice.[1]
Appearance[]
Amy is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with predominantly pink fur. She has small and triangular ears on the top of her head, no back spines and a tail. She also has green eyes, a small black nose and peach countershading on her muzzle that extends to the center of her nose ridge. She also has a pair of medium-length eyelashes on each side of her eyes. Additionally, her five short head quills point downwards, somewhat resembling a bob cut. She also has an octet of smaller quills of varying lengths on her forehead that are styled like bangs.
For attire, Amy wears a pair of white gloves with gold bracelets for cuffs, tall red boots with white shoelaces down the center, and a red hairband. Unknown if she wears her iconic clothes from her game counterpart, Amy wears a brown-pinkish cloak covering her body as of now.
History[]
Film series[]
Sonic the Hedgehog 3[]
Amy appears in the mid-credits scene, saving Sonic from an army of Metal Sonics around the New York State Park by smashing all but one of them with her signature hammer while wearing a cloak. When Sonic asks who she is, she silently takes the hood off from her cloak, revealing who she is with a smile.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4[]
Not much is known about Amy's role in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, other than the fact that she and Metal Sonic are set to play major roles and the "4" is in her signature color.
Personality[]
While it's still unknown at this current moment, Amy appears to be fearless when facing the Metal Sonic robots head on, even with a smile after destroying them all too.
Powers and abilities[]
Like her video game counterpart, her usage of her Piko Piko Hammer is a force to be reckoned with, but also appears to be able to harness chaos energy, enabling her to generate and control pink electrical energy, evident by her quickly taking out all of the Metal Sonic clones in only two sets of attacks with it, while with a pink aura surrounding her hammer. Not much else is known about Amy's arsenal of skills, but she seems to have great stealth tactics as well, as she was able to seemingly approach the Metal Sonic horde unnoticed and save Sonic, despite Metal at least being shown to have the ability to scan an area and detect others.
Equipment[]
Amy wields her Piko Piko Hammer. With it at her disposal, she is able to smash robots with brute force, and also have it work as a homing weapon that she can command and target others with, similar to that of Mjolnir from Marvel and its Marvel Cinematic Universe counterpart. She also wears a hooded cloak to hide her identity when in battle.

Trivia[]
- Amy is the third female character from the video games to be introduced in the movie franchise, following Maria Robotnik and Professor Victoria, who made a cameo on a billboard, within the same film. She is also first non-human female character from be from the games to be introduced too.
- A human referencing her name is seen in the first film on Zillow website.
- In Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Sonic saves Amy from Metal Sonic, while in the film, their roles are reversed; Amy saves Sonic from Metal Sonic.
- Amy and Metal Sonic are the only characters from the video games who meet Sonic in a mid-credits scene instead of during the main events of the film or in a future sequel. In the first two films, Tails and Shadow appear in the mid-credits scenes, but they didn't meet Sonic until the events of their next film (Tails meets Sonic in the second film, and Shadow meets Sonic in the third film).
