Believe me--I've seen some weird stuff. Things you wouldn't believe.

— Amy Rose, Sonic the Hedgehog #260

Amy Rose is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. She is a young, carefree, mobian hedgehog who has had a crush on Sonic the Hedgehog for years. Originally starting out as just one of Sonic's most devoted young admirers, she would mature into one of his most trusted allies and after proving herself she became a member of the Freedom Fighters who have sworn to protect the world from the evil scientist, Dr. Eggman and his Egg Army. Her loyalty to her friends and team is without question and her improving skills have assured her importance to the Freedom Fighters' cause. She is also the leader of the occasionally activated Team Rose.

Appearance[]

Amy is a pink-furred mobian hedgehog with green eyes and peach skin on her muzzle, inner ears and arms. She has a small black nose, triangular ears on top of her head, and no back spines. She also has two medium-length eyelashes on each side of her eyes. Additionally, her five short head quills point downwards, somewhat resembling a bob cut. She also has three spikes for bangs on her head, and a short pointy tail.

For attire, she wears clothing from the Dream-Casters Line.[3] This includes a red, sleeveless, backless dress with white trim, tall red boots with a white stripe down the center, white cuffs and gray soles, a red hairband, and white wrist-length gloves with gold bracelets for cuffs.

When she was younger, Amy's five head quills were longer and pointed backwards, and she had a single back spine. Her eyes were black and she wore an orange-ruffled or pleated skirt, a green puffy-sleeved shirt with a white collar and cuff bands, white and blue sneakers with orange shoelaces, white wrist-length gloves, and a red ribbon headband.

History[]

Past[]

KidnappedAmy

Amy is kidnapped by Metal Sonic, from Sonic the Hedgehog #290.

Amy, already an admirer of Sonic due to his earlier acts of heroism, met the hero when he had just arrived at Never Lake to find the Little Planet chained to the surface by Dr. Eggman, a meeting which she claimed was "destined" to happen, as foretold in her fortune. She followed Sonic up to the planetoid, where she was kidnapped by Metal Sonic in front of Sonic's eyes at Collision Chaos. Sonic later raced Metal at Stardust Speedway, and rescued Amy from her imprisonment after winning the race. Amy was the allowed to tag along with her hero as he set off in search of the Time Stones.[4]

Another adventure would have Amy follow Sonic to the Eastwatch Islands in an attempt to travel with him, where she met up with Sonic and Tails in Flower Park Zone, who were out to stop Dr. Eggman from obtaining the seven Ancient Gears to power his new super-weapon, the Mega Drive. Initially refusing to have Amy tag along with them, Sonic changed his mind when Amy proved she was not longer helpless by showing her new Piko Piko Hammer. After once again encountering Eggman, the trio defeated him and retrieved another Ancient Gear as well as saved more captured Mobini. In the Cascade Temple Zone, the trio fell into a trap run by Knuckles, who had once again been tricked by Eggman, this time into believing Sonic had been going on a rampage with the Chaos Emeralds. After realizing his mistake, the four teamed up and once again encountered and defeated Eggman, retrieved another Ancient Gear, and saved captured Mobini.[5]

After arriving at Glitter Peak Zone and defeating another Badnik, the four heroes once again encountered Eggman, who was easily defeated thanks to Tails, Amy, and Knuckles, with Sonic watching on in disappointment, realizing that he wanted to adventure by himself and at his own pace. After retrieving another Ancient Gear, the team traveled to Haunted Depths Zone, where Sonic suggested splitting up to cover more ground. After leaving the three, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy came across a giant Badnik which they beat after a hard fight. They then felt a tremor and wondered if Sonic was okay. Deciding that they would meet Sonic at the next island, Eruption Ruin Zone, the traveling trio met up with Sonic and helped him cross a ledge that he could not reach, helping Sonic realize that he preferred having his friends around with him after all. After teaming up to defeat Eggman once again, the team retrieved one more Ancient Gear, but their victory was cut short by Metal Sonic, who swooped in to steal the five Ancient Gears that Tails had as well as kidnap Amy. After Tails realized where Eggman and Metal Sonic could be hiding, Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails made their way to Eggman's new flying fortress. After handing over their Ancient Gear in exchange for Amy thinking that Eggman did not have the seventh, the team realized that Metal Sonic had the last Ancient Gear inside of it. After the three defeated Metal Sonic and saved Amy, Eggman and Metal Sonic fled the fortress. After taking a look at the database on the fortress, Tails realized that there was a deep sea base directly under where they were. However, Sonic decided that before pursuing the villains they should collect the seven Chaos Emeralds, which had a habit of showing up when they needed them.[6]

Following this adventure, she joined Sonic's circle of friends, eventually taking part in an adventure when Eggman's robot E-100 ZERO came after a Flicky she had befriended. It was around this time that she donned her signature red and white ensemble, a part of the Dream-Casters Line produced by her favorite designer Honey the Cat, and began wielding the mighty Piko Piko Hammer.[7] Following this adventure and another in which she was introduced to Sonic's lookalike rival Shadow the Hedgehog,[8] Amy was present when Antoine D'Coolette proposed to Bunnie Rabbot.[9][10] Sometime later, she joined forces with her friend Cream the Rabbit, Cream's Chao Cheese, and Big the Cat to form the first incarnation of Team Rose. Looking to find Sonic and her friends' missing pets Chocola and Froggy, Amy's team found themselves competing with Team Sonic and Team Chaotix before joining them and Team Dark in facing the monstrous Metal Overlord.[11] At some point in the past, Amy was one of the many heroes caught up in the Black Arms invasion of the planet, where she and her fellow allies where briefly rendered immobile by a toxic gas released from the Black Comet. Fortunately, they were saved by the valiant efforts of Shadow, whom Amy also worked with to look for Cream and to challenge Eggman.[12][13]

StH 260 E-100 Alpha

Amy recalls her past experiences as a captive, from Sonic the Hedgehog #260.

Amy's adventures continued after she met the robot Emerl,[14] and also saw her helping Sonic confront the threat of Eggman backed by Emerl's upgraded and rebuilt form of Gemerl.[15] She later ran into Blaze the Cat, who became another firm friend,[16] and participated in Sonic's clashes with the Babylon Rogues,[17][18] even reforming Team Rose with Vector the Crocodile in place of Big to enter an Extreme Gear tournament.[19] She also participated in events that were later erased by Sonic's actions in battle against the evil Solaris, including a meeting with Silver the Hedgehog.[20] Amy also became involved in Eggman's machinations involving the Wisps,[21] and later the monstrous Time Eater,[22] though Sonic defeated the doctor on both occasions. Later on, shortly before the Genesis Wave swept the world, she mysteriously vanished while guarding the Sky Patrol, Rotor the Walrus' greatest creation and the new base of the Freedom Fighters.[23]

Worlds Collide[]

Due to the Genesis Wave, Amy's history and memories were changed to be nearly identical to that of her game counterpart.

Following the effects of the Genesis Wave, Amy was part of a group composed of Knuckles, Tails, and Shadow-who were captured by Metal Sonic and his newest ally, Bass. The four were delivered to Dr. Eggman and his new partner, Dr. Wily who had created Bass. All of them were then transformed into an evil new group of robots known as the Roboticized Masters, with Amy becoming Rose Woman. She and her new teammates- Tails Man, Knuckles Man, and Shadow Man-were then sent to Wily's world to rob the Mega City bank, which was holding a Chaos Emerald. While there, they were engaged by Proto Man, whom Rose Woman and Knuckles Man easily managed to overcome. However, Rose Woman was then attacked by Proto Man's brother, Mega Man, who grabbed the other Robot Master and got them both away from Rose Woman's attacks. Rose Woman fled with her teammates and traveled back to the Skull Egg Zone to give the Chaos Emerald to her bosses.[24][25][26]

Rose Woman Turns Into Amy

Amy restored to normal from Rose Woman, from Sonic Universe #53.

When Sonic and Mega Man invaded the Skull Egg Zone, Rose Woman and the other Roboticized Masters battled Sonic and Mega Man in a tournament-style event. She was later put on standby when the other Masters battled her enemies.[27][28] When all her teammates failed-with the exception of Knuckles Man, she and Knuckles Man went to a last resort: destroy their enemies at all costs, even self-destruct![29] Knuckles Man and Rose Woman found Sonic and Mega Man and began attacking, and quickly put the heroes on the defensive. Mega Man attempted to down Rose Woman with Silver Man's Psycho Burst, but his warning to Sonic allowed the Robian to deflect it. Mega Man used Blaze Woman's Fire Tornado to knock out Rose Woman, and with the Sonic Shot, deroboticized her. After the battle, Amy wept and clung to Sonic about her role as a Roboticized Master, embarrassing Sonic as usual.[30]

Amy joined Sonic and Mega Man, and went to the Wily Egg's location and helped them battle the Robot Masters. She was saved by Tails when she was battling Splash Woman, Aqua Man and Pump Man, but Tails had a problem with Tornado Man, Wind Man and Gyro Man. When Sonic left for the Wily Egg, Amy hoped that he would come back to her.[31] Later, she was speechless when she saw Tails severely injured.[32]

Fighting with determination against such foes as Star Man, she and her allies then received a welcome surprise: reinforcements in the form of the Light Labs Robot Masters. Bolstered by this force, Amy and her teammates continued to battle, until all of them stopped to watch as the Super Genesis Wave washed across both their worlds. Super Sonic subsequently attempted to restore their world to normal, but his efforts were disrupted by Dr. Eggman.[33][34]

Pirate Plunder Panic[]

Note: From the readers point of view, this picks up from where Amy's original timeline ended.
Girls Against Pirates

Amy and her friends in the Sol Zone, from Sonic Universe #57.

Amy, Cream, Cheese, Bark the Polar Bear, and Bean the Dynamite-the latter two separate from Amy and her friends-were later whisked off to Blaze's home reality, the Sol Zone, by the power of the Sol Emeralds. With their memories of Sonic's World a blur, they joined Blaze, Marine the Raccoon, and the Coconut Crew aboard the Ocean Tornado in the hunt for the last Sol Emerald. They found it in the hands of the ruthless Captain Metal and his band of pirates, and became engaged in a battle with the fearsome warship known as the Metal Marauder. While Amy and her friends fought bravely, even providing Blaze the chance to sneak aboard the Marauder but the enemy vessel's arsenal proved too formidable. This forced the crew to take desperate action: the Coconut Crew abandoned ship while Amy, Marine, Cream, and Cheese hid in a chest that shielded them from the Ocean Tornado's destruction. Luckily, a school of Dolphins arrived to save them from drowning, and took them to Metal's stronghold of Pirate Island. There they found more new allies in the form of the Sprockets, whose Chief led them to Metal's fortress to rescue the captured Blaze. However, their attempt resulted in two unpleasant discoveries: the existence of Metal's Egg O' War and of his pet Kraken.[35][36]

Fortunately, the small band were able to escape due to a pair of distractions: Bean and Bark's sudden theft of Metal's stolen Sol Emerald, and its theft from them by Johnny, agent of Metal's rival and Blaze's old foe Captain Whisker. Pursuing Johnny, the four heroines and Cheese found and commandeered the Metal Marauder, shanghaiing the crew and finding themselves landed with Bark and Bean as unexpected-and at first unwelcome-shipmates. However, upon catching Johnny and engaging both Captain Whisker's Ship and the released Kraken, Amy and her friends turned to the pair of criminals for help. Bean responded by conjuring a massive bomb that Bark then lobbed into the Kraken's mouth, destroying the creature but also causing the Sol Emerald to go flying and land in the clutches of Captain Metal, who arrived via his submarine.[37]

Leaving Sol Zone

Amy and the others arrive back in their home world, from Sonic Universe #58.

Blaze engaged the robot while Amy and the others continued to battle Whisker's crew, with the fight ending as Metal captured Blaze and took her aboard the Egg o' War. A fleeing Whisker sank the Marauder as he was leaving, with the robot crew deserting Metal for him. Fortunately, Amy and her allies were able to claim the submarine, thanks to Bean chasing off Metal's lieutenants Swash and Buckle. Amy, Cream, and Cheese then boarded the Egg o' War to rescue Blaze, their efforts enabling her to claim the last Sol Emerald and add it to her collection. Using the power of all seven, she became Burning Blaze, and melted Metal's body only for him to upload himself into the Egg o' War. However, Burning Blaze easily shot down the flying menace after Amy and friends made their escape, and after bidding farewell, sent the five back to their home using the power of the Sol Emeralds.[38]

Countdown to Chaos[]

Amy and Sally1

Amy and Sally get their memories of the un-altered world restored, from Sonic the Hedgehog #256.

Arriving in Mobotropolis, Amy, Cream, Cheese, Bean, and Bark found a returning Sally Acorn, who was being pursued by a murderous Metal Sonic. Amy moved quickly to assist Sally in battling the robot, who easily overpowered the Royal Palace Guard, while Bark and Bean took advantage of the robot's presence to escape. Fortunately, Sonic and Tails arrived just in time to relieve their beleaguered friends, luring Metal outside the city and damaging him too badly to continue the fight. Both Sally and Amy were happy-though confused-at Sonic's greeting, as he made strange references that neither understood. All was later made clear aboard the Sky Patrol, where a shared touch to Nicole allowed Amy to regain memories of a forgotten life. Regrettably, they had little time to process these revelations, as Nicole promptly revealed that the same phenomenon that had changed their universe had also left the planet dangerously unstable. The Sky Patrol took flight, and the Freedom Fighters were treated to the site of their planet breaking apart.[39]

Shattered World Crisis[]

Act One[]

Realizing that the cataclysm would have affected the entire planet, the team headed for Station Square, where they divided into Team Fighters and Team Freedom in an effort to assist the citizens.[40]

Amy and her friends soon found themselves on another mission, this time to rescue the kidnapped Professor Charles the Hedgehog and his colleague Professor Dillon Pickle from an Egg Train bound for Rail Canyon Zone. Tasked with locating the missing scientists, Amy began smashing her way into train cars, but became more cautious upon nearly setting off an explosion that could have destroyed the whole transport. She quickly warned Bunnie of the danger as well, but the team soon had to deal with the damaged train picking up speed and the interference of E-106 Eta.[41] They eventually succeeded in rescuing the professors, who then explained what they had learned about the planet's condition from the Gaia Manuscripts. Pickle and Chuck then informed them of the corruptive nature of the power of Dark Gaia seeping from the planet, which Sonic-unbeknownst to most of his friends-had previously been exposed to. Brushing off the concerns of his teammates, Sonic insisted upon focusing on their new task: gathering the seven Chaos Emeralds and combining their power with that of the Gaia Temples to restore the planet.[2]

Eusebes Chao Garden

Amy in the Eusebes Shrine, from Sonic the Hedgehog #260.

Not sure where to begin their search, the Freedom Fighters formed Amy into a team with Sonic and Rotor, who were dropped off on a beach. They were soon surprised to hear music coming from a nearby crevice, and upon calling out heard a response and were told to wait for someone to guide them. That guide proved to be Razor the Shark, accompanied by Crusher the Chao, who provided the trio with Air Charms to allow them to accompany him underwater. The stunned trio of heroes were shown the underwater city of Meropis, and then led to the Eusebes Shrine where they met the source of the music: Coral the Betta. The heroes spent some pleasant time exploring the shrine's adjacent Chao Garden before being alerted to a troubling development: the shrine's patron Chao Aquarius had gone into a cocoon and not emerged. Almost immediately, the shrine was then visited by members of the Meropis City Guard, who were quick to be suspicious of the surface dwellers.[42] When Aquarius' condition became known, Captain Striker the Mantis Shrimp took Coral, Razor, Amy, and Sonic before King Puff and Queen Angelica. Upon learning that the city was plagued by pollution and by monsters, the Freedom Fighters attempted to explain the situation but were dismissed. Coral was then stripped of her office and told to leave the shrine the following day, a development that broke her concentration during the evening ceremony at the shrine and brought down the city's protective shield.[43]

Amy and her friends-both old and new-were forced to engage the invading creatures, and defeated the first wave only to realize that more were coming. Amy volunteered to remain with Razor, Coral, and Coral's apprentice Pearly the Manta Ray to protect the Shrine while Sonic and Rotor went to aid the city and get reinforcements, with Coral endeavoring to raise the shield again. Amy and Razor's valiant efforts held for a time, though Amy found herself dealing with Pearly's unexplained fear of the Chao who inhabited the shrine. They then had an unpleasant revelation: Sonic and Rotor had taken Air Charms that were nearly depleted, and would leave them trapped underwater with no air supply.[44] Fortunately, Tikal and Chaos arrived to help both groups of heroes, and guardsmen under Echo the Dolphin soon arrived to reinforce the Shrine. The shield was soon raised again after Aquarius emerged from her cocoon in an evolved state, and Coral was reinstated as priestess. She then taught Amy the Mystic Melody, a skill that Amy developed surprisingly quickly, to help the Freedom Fighters in their search for the Chaos Emeralds and Gaia Temples.[45] After returning to the Sky Patrol, Amy would join a reformed Team Rose for a training mission orchestrated by Nicole, which Amy noted was surprisingly intense. Nicole responded that Amy would have gotten mad if she had taken it easy on them.[46]

Amy would soon put her new skill to work in helping her teammates-this time Sonic and Sally-locate a Chaos Emerald in Soumerca. The trio were attacked shortly after their arrival in the Rocky Jungle Zone by E-113 Xi, who was dispatched by the arrival of two old friends: Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. After catching up, the Freedom Fighters were introduced to Mighty and Ray's mentor Moss the Sloth, who sensed the growing darkness of Dark Gaia within Sonic. Brushing off his friends' concerns yet again, Sonic advised Amy to employ the Mystic Melody, and she detected it some distance south, which Mighty reported was in Soumerca Egg Army territory. The five friends made their way to the Emerald's location, only to fall into a trap set by Egg Boss Thunderbolt, who set powerful electric generators to zap the heroes. However, the Dark Gaia energies within Sonic caused him to transform into the fearsome Sonic the Werehog,[47] who made short work of the Egg Soldiers before pursuing Thunderbolt. Mighty managed to halt Sonic's rampage, and after a battle between the two Amy and Sally managed to talk Sonic down, helping him overcome his distorted perception of the world around him. Upon his return to normal with the rising of the sun, Sonic declared that he would remain with Mighty and Ray under Moss' tutelage until he could keep his new form under control.[48] Reluctantly, the Freedom Fighters embarked on their next mission without Sonic, and set out to recover another Chaos Emerald. Amy was teamed with Rotor and Tails as Team Fighters to serve as backup to the Team Freedom composed of Sally, Bunnie, and Antoine.[49]

They were quickly called into action as the first team was caught in a trap, only to become ensnared in another set in expectation of their rescue attempt. With the Emerald lost and no apparent means of escape, the two groups were saved by the brave efforts of Amy's old teammates, T-Pup, and Omochao, who arrived to save them from Eggman's energy net. A despondent group then picked up the confident Sonic, who reassured them all that this setback wouldn't stop them.[50]

Casino Park

Team Fighters arrives in Casino Park, from Sonic the Hedgehog #268.

The quest for the Emeralds soon led Team Fighters-with Sonic replacing Rotor alongside Amy and Tails-being registered for the Chaos Emerald Championship being held in Casino Park. Sonic shared with the group his history with Breezie the Hedgehog, the tournament's organizer, whose existence prompted some jealousy in Amy due to not having previously been told about her. Amy also briefly disputed with Rotor, who suggested stealing the Emerald rather than competing, and was backed up by Sally in her view that the Freedom Fighters couldn't afford to compromise their integrity. Amy and her teammates soon arrived in Casino Park, where they enjoyed a brief but tense interview with Breezie, before running into a far more thrilling new acquaintance from Amy's perspective: her favorite fashion designer Honey the Cat. Recognizing Amy's ensemble as one of her creations, Honey determined to release it as part of the "Rose Collection," something that thrilled Amy. After a disturbingly well-synchronized routine between the two of them, Amy introduced Honey to her teammates, and they explained their reasons for being in the tournament. Honey agreed to give them the Emerald in the event of her victory, though she hoped that the Freedom Fighters would all agree to model for her.[3]

Knuckles Vs Amy

The end result of Amy's fight with Knuckles, from Sonic the Hedgehog #270.

During the first round, Amy alerted Sonic to the fact that the sun was about to set following his match with Segata Sanshiro. She then faced her own opponent, Pane the Boar, whose superior size proved to be no match for Amy. As the first round wound down, Tails was defeated by Honey, who was then set to face Sonic in the next round. Much to her horror, Amy's opponent for round two was an unexpected addition to the tournament: their old ally Knuckles the Echidna.[51] In facing him, Amy was confident in her ability to win, and was eager for the chance to move on and face Sonic. However, she allowed herself to become distracted by various concerns during the fight, and Knuckles managed to land a blow that knocked her into the stands. She went into a hospital, but fortunately her pride proved to be the most injured part of her, and she asked Sonic to "avenge" her and beat Knuckles in the finals.[52]

She had managed to recover during Metal Sonic’s raid on the casino vault. Metal flew through the building, dodging attacks by her Knuckles, Espio and Honey before bursting through the roof to escape Sonic, but was prevented by Tails who claimed both the emerald and champion title. Upon rejoining at Sky Patrol that evening, she learned of Knuckles’ quest to locate the Master Emerald shards and was introduced to Chip the Light Gaia. After briefly bringing up her defeat at his hands during the contest, Amy suggested a way to possibly speeding up the hunt for the Emerald shards: using the Mystic Melody technique she learned in Meropis to track down the rest.[53]

Utilizing the Melody, Amy detected a nearby Emerald in Apotos and she and Knuckles hit upon a plan to find the rest of the shards by working together. Rotor objected, however, as Amy's ability was also their greatest asset in the ongoing hunt for the Gaia Temples, but the others reminded him that they had a responsibility to save Angel Island as well. Unbeknownst to him, Sonic's party had already found a solution in the form of the sage Gregorios, who contacted them during the tournament. Upon engaging a Dark Gaia Titan, the heroes discovered a missing shard lodged in its torso. Antoine managed to dislodge the shard while Amy and Knuckles teamed up to take it down. Upon learning of Gregorios' information the Gaia Gate, Amy and Knuckles realized that they were free to pursue the Master Emerald shards, though a crestfallen Sonic was ribbed by Knuckles over the idea of Amy leaving to travel with him.[54]

But before she and Knuckles could begin their quest, Rotor received an unexpected call from Rouge the Bat, who informed him that a G.U.N unit has discovered another Chaos Emerald in the Crystal Desert Zone.[54] Amy was present with the rest of the Freedom Fighters whilst helping the wounded soldiers recover from an ambush by Metal Sonic, who stole the emerald. After a transdimensional chase through alternate realities, Sonic had managed to recover the cyan emerald from his robotic doppelganger and was embraced by Amy who commented that he smelt like sulfur.[55]

Worlds Unite[]

Much to Amy's concern, Sonic later disappeared, but the Freedom Fighters were called back to Mobotropolis to deal with a new threat. Arriving back in the city, the team were forced to face M'egga Man, a corrupted version of Mega Man dispatched by Sigma. Despite working together and being aided by Gemerl, the heroes proved to be no match for the corrupted Robot Master.[56] Their planet and his were subsequently merged into a Unified World by Sigma's Unity Engines, which brought the heroes and their foe face-to-face with several heroic Robot Masters and Sonic Man, whom the Freedom Fighters realized with horror was Sonic hideously transformed. A heroic alliance soon formed, and was joined by the cured pair of blue heroes, the Maverick Hunters, and Team Sticks. The strange team boarded the Sky Patrol and set out to find Sigma, which led them to the Lost Hex.[57][58]

AmyandCo

Amy, powered up by Fina, alongside Stella and Sexy Sylvia, from Sonic the Hedgehog #275.

Amy and her friends were forced to engage a Mechaniloid army led by Sigma's brainwashed minions, the Deadly Six. Unfortunately, it was not long before they were attacked by their own robotic allies, who were being controlled by the powers of the Zeti.[59] Amy and her friends were forced back into the Sky Patrol, but fortunately Eggman and Wily managed to halt the villains using their Egg-Wily Uppity Robot Scrambler Cannon. Unfortunately, they and their freed robotic allies were then forced to face Sigma's Maverick army.[60] Weakened by their previous struggles, Amy and the others were unable to stop most of the army from scattering through Genesis Portals while a handful remained behind to attack them. Fortunately, help arrived in the form of Sticks the Badger and her new allies from the world of Street Fighter. Their numbers expanded, the heroes then prepared to disperse in pursuit of the villains.[61]

Act Two[]

Amy and Knuckles’ quest for the shards began in Soumerca. Teaming up with Mighty and Ray, they infiltrated Thunderbolt’s Egg Base while the Egg Boss presented the two Master Emerald shards she found to Eggman in an effort to redeem herself. Thunderbolt was alerted of the infiltration and attempt to stop them herself. Before the team could claim the Master Emerald shards, Thunderbolt attacked them. Ray and Amy helped secure the area, allowing Mighty to throw the capsule containing the Master Emerald shards to Moss the Sloth's position far away from enemy lines. Thunderbolt and her Egg Soldiers surrounded Knuckles and Mighty, but Amy messed with their audio and speakers, allowing the four of them to escape. Fearing he would not be able to recover the remaining seven shards before the Freedom Fighters found all the Chaos Emeralds and Gaia Keys, Knuckles was encouraged by Amy to not lose hope. And through the use of her Mystic Melody ability, she pinpointed a number of shards on Westside Island.[62]

Upon arriving at Castle Acorn to ask King Acorn for permission to find the Master Emerald shards, they met Team Dark who were on a similar mission. Realizing they shared the same goal, both teams reluctantly agreed to search for the shards together. Arriving at the Hidden Palace Zone, the team of five split up with Shadow paired with Knuckles while Amy stuck with Rouge.[63]

The two were then ambushed by a crystallized version of Omega, but were soon rescued by Shadow who informed them that Knuckles went on to reassemble the Master Emerald with an echidna named Nixus, who claimed to be searching for the shards himself. Amy recognized Nixus to be Walter Naugus in disguise and set off to warn Knuckles, only for Crystal Omega to suddenly attack them. After much fighting and struggling, Amy and her allies finally broke Walter's magical grip on Omega and were about to confront the vile wizard himself when he, having fully restored the Master Emerald, encased them all in solid crystal.[64] Delighted with himself, Walter fled with Amy and the Master Emerald in tow, although Rouge and her teammates were broken free by Knuckles, who had freed himself. The four caught up to Naugus and directly engaged him, while also keeping him away from the Master Emerald.[65]

During the battle, Walter took on the appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog in a vain attempt to distract Amy. Amy could not bring herself to attack the image of her beloved friend, so she left the job to the hedgehog's fellow rivals to deliver the finishing blow for her. In the end, Shadow and his team parted ways with Knuckles and Amy when the two returned the Master Emerald to Shrine Isle, successfully defeating Walter Naugus and having him imprisoned in the process. Amy later had a tea party with Sonic, Cream, Cheese, Sally, and Nigel at Castle Acorn.[66]

Personality[]

Amy is an interesting mix of personality traits, apparently as determined to fight against injustices in the world as she happy is chasing after Sonic. Though she loves fashion and is often quite cheerful, she also possesses a temper rivaling, if not surpassing, that of Knuckles. Despite this, she is a dedicated hero, and balks at the path of "the ends justify the means." Amy is always prepared to lend a helping hand to those who need it.

Powers and abilities[]

Amy is a powerful offensive fighter. She also appears to possess other mystical powers, as demonstrated by her proficiency in the Mystic Melody.

Weapons[]

Amy is equipped with the mighty Piko Piko Hammer, her primary weapon in combat. She is apparently able to conjure the hammer out of thin air, one of many mystical properties apparently possessed by the object, which has also on occasion produced small cyclones.

Relationships[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Amy is head-over-heels in love with Sonic, taking advantage of every opportunity to express her affection. His rare instances of reciprocating this-if not in a romantic fashion-are enough to leave her dazed, though she becomes jealous at the very notion that another girl might be interested in him.

Cream the Rabbit[]

Cream is Amy's best friend and sidekick. They share a sister-like relationship, comparable to Sonic and Tails' brother-like friendship. Also are both a part of Team Rose along with Big, Cheese, Blaze and Marine.

Blaze the Cat[]

Blaze the Cat is one of Amy's oldest friends, and the two are close friends even though she, along with Marine, Cream and Cheese in Team Rose, helped to find the Sol Emeralds. Although both are, however, respectable and reliable allies, they are a formidable team.

Coral the Betta[]

Honey the Cat[]

Amy and Honey friendship

Amy and Honey saying Honey Clothing's slogan, from Sonic the Hedgehog #268.

Honey the Cat is Amy's favorite fashion designer and she admires her, the same way that she is Honey's favorite Freedom Fighter. Ever since they met at Casino Park, the two have a good chemistry between them. Amy's attire that Honey recognized was an old piece of one of her creations of the Dream-Casters Line. Honey was so delighted to see Amy wearing the look that she decided to re-launch it in Amy's honor as part of the "Rose Collection".

Trivia[]

  • In the North American manual for the Sega CD version of Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Amy is credited as "Princess Sally", but the PC Version and all other games call her Amy Rose. The reason at the time was to support the Sonic the Hedgehog TV series, but the attempt was scratched off.
  • The plot point of Amy's modern outfit being part of Honey the Cat's "Dream-Casters" line is a nod to the fact that Amy first appeared with this look in Sonic Adventure, which was released for the Dreamcast.
  • Ian Flynn indicated in a Q&A that Amy enjoys sweets such as pancakes with syrup and ice cream, but is not really interested in junk food.[1]
    • Coincidentally, the favorite food of Amy's game counterpart happens to be soft-served ice cream.
