Amy[1]

Template:Character

Amy Rose (エミー・ローズ Emī Rōzu?), once known as Rosy the Rascal, is a character who appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. She is a pink, half-girly and half-tomboyish female hedgehog who plays the part of Sonic's self-proclaimed girlfriend. She has chased Sonic since her first debut in 1993, and has been trying to win his heart in everything from the series' animated TV shows to comics and games. She is the first female character introduced into the game universe and is also one of the most popular, coming in fifth place on an official popularity poll.[2]

Like Sonic and other characters in the series, Amy is significantly shorter and lighter than humans her same age. To be precise, she is 12 years old, 90 cm (2'11") tall (although at times it looks as if she's almost the same height as Sonic), and keeps her weight a secret. [3] She was described as being 8 years old in Sonic CD, but as of Sonic Adventure and onwards, she has grown older (by 4 years). Also, with the addition of Cream the Rabbit, Amy seems to have found herself a sidekick similar to Sonic's own Tails (as implied by Sonic Battle, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Advance 3, and Shadow the Hedgehog).

History

Concept and Creation

Amy Rose is one of the few characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog series to have her start outside the games. The original design for Amy Rose was developed in the Sonic the Hedgehog manga published in Shogaku Yonensei. Written by Kenji Terada and illustrated by Sango Norimoto, the manga character was soon adapted by the Sonic the Hedgehog CD team to be used in Sonic's Mega CD debut. She was redesigned by Kazuyuki Hoshino, giving her a completely new dress and removing the mohawk-like hairstyle prominent in the manga, instead giving her a trim similar to Sonic the Hedgehog. Becoming the damsel in distress, she went largely unused after her initial appearance, showing up in a handful of spin-off titles.

When Sonic Team reunited and started work on their three dimensional follow-up to the classic Sonic games, Sonic Adventure, it was decided they would revive the pink hedgehog and give her a starring role in the game. Yuji Uekawa, the man who would redesign all the classic characters, did the most drastic changes to Amy Rose. While Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles all received minor tweaks, Amy once again had her clothing and hairstyle completely revamped, and was also made to look slightly older, perhaps in an attempt to appeal to a different demographic than the rest of the Sonic characters.

Game appearances

Amy's original clothes

In her first game appearance, Sonic CD (1993), Amy was introduced by Metal Sonic. Doctor Robotnik then used the time stones to set time back on the Little Planet. Robotnik forced Sonic to challenge Metal Sonic in a race for Amy's life, which Sonic had won. Amy was rescued and Metal Sonic was destroyed for the time being. She had the nickname "Rosy the Rascal" at this point, and was named "Princess Sally" in the Western manuals to tie in with the cartoon, though all later games called her Amy. Being a Genesis-era game (though technically a Sega CD game), Sonic CD's plot was minimal. Amy's only personality trait was that she was a big fan of Sonic, enjoying to follow him around, and no real reason was given for her kidnapping besides as bait for Sonic. The help file of the PC version of Sonic CD states that she likes mysterious things, such as fortune telling, but her fascination with Little Planet is the only evidence of this. Though Sonic CD was released after Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it was in production at the same time, meaning that Amy has more or less been around as long as Tails.

The Cute Little Racer

Amy appeared again in Sonic Drift and Sonic Drift 2 to race in a Grand Prix – her vehicle was a car with a face. She was a playable character in the 1996 arcade game Sonic the Fighters. In 1997's Sonic R, Amy was the only character to drive a car - everyone else ran on foot (or in Robotnik's case, drove an Eggmobile).

A Sweet-Heart in Combat

Sonic the Fighters introduced her Piko Piko Hammer. This game used her "Rosy the Rascal" nickname as well, though it has not been seen in a game since. This nickname is, however, used for Amy's parallel double in Sonic the Hedgehog #193 through 196.

Time To Look Different

In 1998, Sonic Adventure thrust Amy in the spotlight. She is a playable character in the game and uses her weapon of choice, the Piko Piko Hammer, to defend herself during her quest to find the family of a bird that escaped Eggman and crashed into her. Like the other major characters in the series, Amy was redesigned significantly for this game. Her locks were redesigned into short hair being slacked down, and she now wore a red dress and red boots with a white stripe from the top to the tip, similar to Honey the Cat's Fighters dress, to take advantage of her more mature 12-year-old form. She was given green eyes, the same eye color as Sonic had only in a darker value. Somewhat oddly, in this newer design, Amy often appear to have a more of an 'hourglass'-shape to her body than many other females in the series (such as Blaze, Wave), despite the fact that she is somewhat of a younger age than these characters.

Party-Lover

When Sonic Shuffle was released for the Dreamcast, Amy, as well as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles collected rings and other items while walking around on a board game surface.

The Time To Be Important Than Just Girly

She was an important supporting character in Sonic Adventure 2 because she was the only character that was only playable in 2-player mode to also have a role in the story mode. When Sonic was kept in an island prison, with Tails' help she managed to free him. This happened to be one of the surprisingly many times Amy has saved Sonic rather than the usual opposite. She is also responsible for causing Shadow to realize Maria's true wish by begging him to help everyone, and thus ending up saving the world against the Biolizard, and later with Sonic-- Finalhazard.

Girl in the Gameboy

Amy was playable in Sonic Advance, but unlike the other playable characters, she could not spin and all her attacks had to be triggered. She had an unlockable playable appearance in Sonic Advance 2 (after collecting all Chaos Emeralds with all the other characters) in which she could spin, as well as Sonic Advance 3.

Chasing Sonic With The Help Of Her Gang

In Sonic Heroes, Amy leads Team Rose. She represents the team's speed formation. She's accompanied by Cream the Rabbit and Big the Cat on a mission to impress Sonic, while Big wants to find his friend Froggy (again), and Cream and Cheese want to find Cheese's sibling, Chocola, all the while inspiring the whole team, cheering her friends on.

A Girly Tomboy?

Amy appears in Sonic Battle as a playable character. She is considered by some to be one of the stronger and more reliable characters in the game. In the story, when Amy comes and asks Tails who is Emerl, Tails explains that Emerl is like "Sonic's child", Amy reacted to that and thought that Sonic's Emerl's "Daddy" and she is the "Mommy", Amy then takes away Emerl and tells him to call her "Mommy", so that made Emerl believe that Amy is actually his mother, Amy also chases and fights Rouge in the game since Rouge wanted to steal Emerl for her own needs. All of her attacks contain large amounts of speed, power, and balance, her healing ability can quickly raise her HP, and she is the third fastest character.

Stick With Shadow

Amy appeared alongside Sonic and the rest of the cast in Shadow the Hedgehog to try to convince Shadow to join their cause. Amy in particular needs Shadow's help to rescue Cream and Cheese from Eggman's Cryptic Castle. No matter which mission you decide to choose, after you complete the stage she will assist against your fight against the Egg Breaker. Oddly enough, she does not appear in the cutscenes before or after the battle.

The Speed With Pink Rose

Amy is a playable character in Sonic Riders from the start, and her type is Speed, as equivalent to Sonic's. She joins in the EX World Grand Prix because she wanted to stay with Sonic. In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity she finds one of the Ark of the Cosmos and refuses to hand it over to Jet, when Storm chases after her she throws it at his face gets lost because of him. She is then found by Sonic. In the end of the game, Amy gives suggestions on how did people started wishing on shooting stars.

Time Paradox

Amy appears in Sonic the Hedgehog as an ally in Silver the Hedgehog's storyline to enlist his help in finding Sonic, not knowing that Silver is looking for him too for radically different reasons. Upon finding Sonic, Silver battles him and loses, but by later on catching Sonic off guard and hitting him with a powerful blow, Silver gets the upper hand, but Amy stops him from finishing Sonic off. Amy also saves the damsel-in-distress Princess Elise and Sonic at one point in the story.

Meet the Werehog

Amy appears in Sonic Unleashed. She made her introduction as she did in Sonic Adventure 2's Dark Story and Silver's story in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) by plunging into someone who looks like Sonic. Although she got it right this time, she didn't recognize Sonic due to him being in his Werehog form. She apologized, saying that she could of sworn it was him. Yet before she could get a good enough look at Sonic, he dashed away, afraid of what Amy would think of him if she knew who he was. Amy later finds out about Sonic's new form, saying that although he's changed his look, he's still Sonic to her. She later helps out Professor Pickle and in one cutscene, she talks about being interested in learning.

Lady of the Lake

For more see: Lady of the Lake

Amy appears in Sonic and the Black Knight, portrayed as Nimue, the Lady of the Lake. She gives King Arthur Excalibur, which later proves to be a mistake. Sonic backs away at first, because he recognizes her all too well. Nimue tells that whoever holds the scabbard of Excalibur will become corrupted by its influence. She gives three tests to Sonic: First one is to free innocents from King Arthur's dungeon, second is to show compassion to those in need, the third one is to defeat King Arthur's Knights of the Underworld. Nimue places a three day time limit for the tests to be completed. For the last day of the time limit, she disguises herself as a young child and asks Sonic to rescue her "parents". He completes the test, but runs out of time. She reveals herself after he tells her everyone's okay. As she will only tell the secret of stopping Excalibur to a true knight, Amy tells him that Caliburn, along with the swords of Sir Gawain, Sir Lancelot, and Dame Percival combined can stop Excalibur's immortality-giving ability. Nimue appears as the kingdom is falling to darkness and tells Sonic and the three knights to place their swords in four shrines to create a barrier. After the game, Sonic, who has been taken back to his world, explains his journey to Amy Rose, who then complains that he is lying and forgot about their date, then proceeds to attack him with her hammer.

In Sonic Colors

Amy will appear in the upcoming game called, Sonic Colors, she will be involved in the story along with Tails.

Other Appearances

Amy also appears in Sonic's storyline in Sonic Rivals: Amy has been turned into a card by Dr. Eggman and Sonic sets off to save both her and Tails. She also makes cameo appearances as three collectible cards. And although it is said that Rouge will be playable and there seems to be a rivalry between the two in few games. She doesn't appear in the sequel Sonic Rivals 2, except as a few collectible cards.

Amy is a playable character in the Party Mode in Sonic and the Secret Rings alongside Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Cream, Silver and Blaze.

Amy appears in the Mario and Sonic game crossover as a playable character in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.[4]Like all the other female playable characters (Blaze, Princess Peach, and Princess Daisy) she will wear a different outfit to her normal clothes. Her dress is similar to her normal wear (but different around the shoulders), white the edition of black leggings underneath it, while she wears a different pair of shoes, despite her being the only female character in the Olympic series that does not have royal blood.

Amy is a playable character in the game Sega Superstars Tennis.

Amy is playable in the Sonic Riders sequel Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity.

In Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Amy went with Sonic to save Knuckles, and later the world from Emperor Ix. It is revealed in Chronicles that Amy has started a club for young girls to protect themselves from bullies. Also, the player can engage in a romantic subplot between Sonic and Amy depending on the player's conversation choices.

Girl time

Amy and the other girls

Amy appears in the game Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games as an all-around type character. Her main rival is Peach. Her signature move for the Wii and DS versions is Pink Typhoon and Rose Spin for the DS version. She wears a pink parka, black pants and pink boots. And finally, Amy appears in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, alongside Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Dr. Eggman and Big the Cat. Her model car is the Pink Cabriolet, an old-fashioned pink buggy with a spare tire cover etched with "AMY", and a plate on the front side says: "AMY-ROSE". Her All-Star Move is the Piko Piko Hammer, she pulls it out and madly swings it around to smash anyone unlucky enough to get in her way. And her All-Star Theme is: "My Sweet Passion" from Sonic Adventure.

Personality

Amy in the main series is presented as being kind and sweet. In Sonic CD, she was referred to as an "optimistic tomboy" who loves fortunes and uses tarot cards. Because of her tomboyish nature, she became a playable character as a fighter in Sonic the Fighters. However, after Sonic Adventure, Amy had grown a more girly personality, such as an interest in shopping and fashion, but that didn't remove her tomboyish nature, in the more recent games, Amy has become far more violent and aggressive, much to Sonic's dismay.

However, Amy seems to be a girly-girl and a tomboy, such as in Sonic Battle, her attraction towards "Boxercise" plays to both elements of her ever-changing personality; the exercise helping her lose weight to maintain her girlish figure, and the boxing to help her train when she's forced to fight. In Sonic Battle she had shown a very powerful and aggressive attitude, always willing to fight, she had been training by using weights. Amy is not against fighting and can fight when she needs to. It is more to say that Amy is a girl who looks girly and acts girly but is also a tomboy.

Despite her violent tendencies, Amy has a very good heart, she never gives up, and is one of the most optimistic and cheery characters of the series. Amy is always full of hope and is always cheering on for the good side of things. She almost never seems to find anything hopeless. In Sonic Adventure, she was determined to help the Flicky who had lost his family.

In Sonic Adventure 2, Amy felt strongly that there was a chance for the world to be saved and that people were basically good (as she told Shadow). Amy is also a rather likable person. Despite her being slightly annoying, she has rarely met anyone who she did not befriend (including Shadow and Blaze). Amy is a regular sweetheart, but with a strong sense of justice, a slightly tomboyish but more girly nature and an oversweeping infatuation.

Other continuities

Sonic X

Amy Rose in Sonic X

Main article: Amy Rose (Sonic X)

Amy was also one of the main characters in Sonic X, an anime series which is the most recent of the Sonic the Hedgehog TV shows; her first ever appearance in a Sonic TV series (she did not appear in any of the three American produced series).

In Sonic X, Amy is Sonic's self proclaimed girlfriend. As with her game appearances, her long-term goal is to get him to notice her. She gets mad at Sonic's impatience and aloof attitude, which occasionally are so bad that she is driven to violence. However, she really does care about him. Sonic seems to care about Amy even more in the Anime. Amy also had love daydreams about her and Sonic. Overall, her personality is more temperamental than in the games; she may threaten to and even harm her friends for things they had nothing to do with.

Sonic the Hedgehog (comics)

Main article: Amy Rose (Archie)

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comics by Archie, Amy is from the country of Mercia and has a cousin named Rob O' the Hedge (a reference to Robin Hood). As in other continuities, she has a crush on Sonic. In her earliest appearances, she attempted to become a member of the Freedom Fighters, but was rejected because of her youth - even after making herself older by wishing on the Ring of Acorns, since she still had the mind of a younger girl. Eventually, however, Amy did advance enough to be accepted as a Freedom Fighter, and became an important member of the team.

Sonic the Comic

Amy also appeared in the UK publication Sonic the Comic, in which she was a level-headed and pragmatic member of the Freedom Fighters (when she wasn't claiming to be Sonic's girlfriend). She also became the leader of the team while Sonic was stuck in the Special Zone. She was close friends with Tekno the Canary, and she used a crossbow in battle (rather than the Piko Piko Hammer that eventually became her trademark in the games).

Sonic X: The Comic

Amy Rose's appearance in the Sonic X comic is similar to the one in the Sonic X anime.

In this comic book version, her relationship with Sonic developed more closely, Sonic even took her on a date for Valentine's Day (though this was due to the fact he lost a bet to Knuckles). However, after the date when Amy asked to Sonic if they would go on a date again, Sonic answered with: "Maybe".

Sonic: Adventures

Sonic Adventures was a two-volume, French-made comic book published by Sirène, that was released in 1994. Amy appears in the first volume ("Sonic Adventures: Dans Les Griffes De Robotnik") being kidnapped by Robotnik as bait to get Sonic. This version of Amy had the same design as in Sonic CD.

Abilities

  • Amy does have super speed, although not as fast as Sonic or Shadow. However, she does seem to be able to catch Sonic from time to time (mainly because Sonic stays in one place for too long). In many games, such as Sonic Heroes, she's usually one of the fastest characters.
  • Amy's primary use for attack is her Piko Piko Hammer, which she uses to inflict major damage to her enemies. She can also use it to create huge gusts of pink winds, like tornadoes and typhoons. This also allows her to float in the air.
  • Amy may have access to hammerspace, as she is able to conjure a hammer out of nowhere and can summon more than one. [5]
  • In Sonic '06, it is revealed that Amy can turn invisible, though this was mainly introduced to save time in the game's development.
  • It is mentioned in the manual for Sonic CD that Amy can read tarot cards, which she used in one of her POW moves in Sonic Chronicles, Tarot Draw. This power was also mentioned in Sonic Battle when Amy said, "her cards told her where Sonic was."
  • In Sonic & the Black Knight, Amy is able to whack her hammer into the ground and send of a dome-like energy wave called "Rose Typhoon."
  • The following is a list of POW moves Amy has in Sonic Chronicles:
Low Blow: Amy jumps up and hits a foe with her Piko Piko Hammer, possibly rendering it vulnerable.
Spin Cycle: Cream lifts up Amy, then spins her around before throwing her at a group of enemies.
Tantrum (Hysteric Blow ): Amy charges at an enemy, spinning like a tornado. This may render a foe sluggish.
Blow Kiss: Amy blows a kiss to a friend, empowering the friend to do his or her best.
Tarot Draw (Tarot Cards): Amy foresees the future with her tarot deck, cursing a single foe.
Flower Power: Big rushes forward and falls flat on his face. Cream then pushes Amy, who bounces off Big's back and lands, hammer first, on top of an enemy and stuns it.

Relationships/Friendships

Sonic the Hedgehog

File:Amy in Sonic CD.jpg

Amy Rose and Sonic

Most of Amy's life is spent following Sonic the Hedgehog, whom she is obsessively in love with. While Sonic has never taken to her, it hasn't stopped Amy from declaring herself Sonic's girlfriend. Even though he has no romantic interest in her, and is sometimes overcome by her advances, Sonic and Amy are still able to be friends, even helping each other out if need be. Amy is obessessed with Sonic ever since she saw him. Throughout the games, since their meeting, Amy has always chasing Sonic and tries to be romantic with Sonic. This makes Sonic uncomfortable and lets him to run away. However, Sonic appears to care about Amy, regardless of the above scene, in Sonic Unleashed he seemed very disappointed when Amy didn't recognize him as a Werehog, which made Sonic feel sad and rejected when Chip pointed it out. When she finds out the Werehog was Sonic, she wanted to know all about how it happened, and had even mentioned that Sonic looks better in the day time, but she doesn't care about that. Also in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, Sonic seems to stand up for Amy in two cutscnes.

File:Usually.jpg

An example to show Sonic's and Amy's relation.

In Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Amy tries to make Sonic jealous by making up "her new boyfriend" named Dexter, however that didn't make Sonic jealous so Amy thought that she had to tell him that Dexter was a fake. In the game, there is also an option for Sonic to tell Amy if he really cares about her or not. There is also an option to escape from her.

In Sonic Riders, Amy enters the EX World Grand Prix so she can be beside Sonic, though she becomes mad when Sonic accidentally launches her into a tornado when he had to save her from Dr. Eggman and forgot about her. After getting caught in the tornado, she chases Sonic with her Piko Piko Hammer as payback for forgetting about her, even though Sonic keeps trying to apologize.

In Sonic and the Black Knight's ending, there is a possibility that Sonic and Amy were supposed to go on a date. Sonic was explianing Amy his adventure in the Arthurian Legend, Amy wouldn't believe him and said, "That's the worst excuse for forgetting about our date!" Sonic tries to reason out saying that he swears that it was true, but Amy doesn't listen and pulls out her hammer.

Upon being asked if Sonic and Amy will ever get married, creator Yuji Naka said that, "There will hardly be any chance, I bet. Amy will continue to pursue Sonic all the time, but Sonic will not ever get married. I think so, because I cannot picture the image of Sonic that he is married and has his children! Also, I feel it is a more Amy's style to always chase Sonic." [6]

Cream the Rabbit

Cream the Rabbit is Amy's best friend. Since Sonic Heroes, Cream and Amy are portrayed as best friends and they share a sister-like relationship, comparable to Sonic and Tails' brother-like friendship. This fact is strengthened by Sonic Advance 3, as when they are paired together, they are given the title "Team Jubilee" and serve as a female counterpart to Sonic and Tails' "Unbreakable Bond." The two also seem to frequent together almost completely throughout Sonic Battle, except when Emerl drags one of them away. Amy is also seen searching for Cream during the level Cryptic Castle in Shadow the Hedgehog which further suggests how much she cares for her. Another suggestion is in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood when you go to recruit Cream she says "You poor thing! What are you doing out here?".

In Sonic Rush, it is implied that Amy occasionally gets angry with Cream, angry enough to chase her with her hammer as Cream shouted "Not again!" after she said that Amy was "shortsighted" in the regard of her love of Sonic when Cream introduced Blaze to Amy.

The two team up twice in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood for the moves Spin Cycle, the equivalent of Sonic and Tails' Blue Bomber move in which Cream lifts Amy up and sends her spinning into one enemy, as well damaging adjacent ones. Team Amy band together to perform Flower Power, their most potent attack in this game which involves Amy bouncing off Big with a boost from Cream and landing on a foe hammer-first.

Big the Cat

Big the Cat is most likely Amy's other best friend. They fight together in Sonic Heroes, forming Team Rose. In Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood after meeting Big in the Mystic Ruins, Big states that he "heard his good friend Amy Rose" so he rushed over to see if it was really her. When Big sees Amy he becomes ecstatic and actually makes an attempt to hug her (in which Amy refuses due to the fact that he smelled from the gases in the ruins). Also, if you agree to let Big join your party he, again, becomes happy that he gets to be to around Amy.

Miles "Tails" Prower

Miles "Tails" Prower is a lot like a little brother figure to Amy. Sometimes, she's bossy with him and many other times, she is protective and defensive of Tails. Although, Amy will sometimes use Tails' close connections with Sonic to find out his whereabouts and/or some current events. Nonetheless, Amy and Tails are very good friends, and are almost always seen together in Sonic X.

Knuckles the Echidna

Amy has only been seen interacting with Knuckles the Echidna on rare occasions. In Sonic Rush, when Amy interacted with Blaze for the second time Knuckles rushes in, and says to Blaze, "Hey, cat woman, it's payback time!" , Amy then says, "Uh-oh! What did you do to him!?" Cream tells Amy that he's got a misunderstanding, Amy comments that as "pretty typical of Knuckles". To let Knuckles leave Blaze alone, Amy calls Knuckles a 'dimwit', leading to a brief argument, Knuckles replies, "I don't have time for you! I have business with that cat woman!" Amy then taunts Knuckles and says, "I know! That's why I called you a d-", daring herself that she'll call him a dimwit again, Knuckles then gets outraged and goes hot on Amy, leaving Blaze alone.

Shadow the Hedgehog

In Sonic Adventure 2, they interact twice, but each time, Amy seems to gain an odd reaction from Shadow.

Amy first meets Shadow when she mistakes him for Sonic and hugs him from behind. Shadow remains still after having been caught off guard by her ambush, and does not shake her off or retort with violence. When Amy senses the lack of a reaction, she releases him, causing him to glance back at her. Amy demands his name when she realizes that he is not Sonic, but he continues to watch her quietly. After Amy notices Dr. Eggman, she also realizes the mistake she's made, and runs off screaming. During this, Shadow takes a step after her, until Dr. Eggman tells the team that he'll take care of Amy.

Later in the game aboard the ARK, Amy meets Shadow again and this time does her part in helping by begging Shadow to save the world. At first, Shadow simply replies, strangely in a non-threatening way, that it is pointless, but then Amy points out that despite people sometimes being selfish, they were still inwardly good and that saving them was right. Because of this, Shadow suddenly has a flashback of Maria begging Shadow to make people happy. When Shadow comes to his senses he goes off to fight the Biolizard, upliftingly and softly telling Amy that he has to keep his promise to Maria and her.

Amy was also the only one to see Shadow's tear after he remembered Maria's promise, making her the only person to see him cry in both Sonic Adventure 2. Amy and Maria have the same insight towards humanity, thus this might be one of the reasons Shadow is nice to her, since it's unknown whether or not Shadow remembers Amy's deed in ARK.

During Sonic Battle, Amy is surprised when she finds out that Shadow's in Rouge's house, but she gets angry when Rouge doesn't tell Amy why he's in her house.

Also, at the end of Shadow The Hedgehog, Amy shows an amount of faith and admiration for Shadow, regardless of him being Sonic's arch-rival. When Rouge mutters to herself, "I hope he's okay.", Amy comforts her with her hands clasped and a cheerful smile on her face, "I'm sure he's fine, Rouge! After all, he is Shadow!", which further displays her positive outlook on the black hedgehog.

Silver the Hedgehog

Silver the Hedgehog met Amy in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) in an awkward confrontation, when she mistook him for Sonic and ended up hugging him, like she did to Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2. After realizing it is someone else Amy playfully slaps Silver out of absolute embarrassment, yet decides to help him find who he is looking for (not knowing that he intends to track down Sonic and kill him). Though Silver is largely unwilling to help her at first, he soon warms up to her and decides to help. When he attacks Sonic, Amy distracts him just long enough to allow Sonic to escape, and Amy angrily leaves him after Silver informs her of the destruction that Sonic will cause (which ultimately proved to be partially wrong). Strangely, when they meet again after Solaris is reborn, she shows no outright hostility or anger towards him (mainly because she had bigger concerns, such as where she was).

Princess Elise

While looking for Sonic in Eggman's White Acropolis, Amy runs into Princess Elise during her own escape attempt and assists her in escaping the base. When they return to Soleanna, Amy gives her some advice on love, assures her that she has a chance with Sonic (not knowing that Elise a crush on Sonic), stating, "You're a princess and you're super-cute. This guy's the lucky one.", and the two become close friends. When Amy is assisting the other characters in gathering the Chaos Emeralds in order to bring Sonic back to life, she entrusts Elise to look after Sonic's body until they return. When Elise had to kiss Sonic to revive him, Amy can't be seen in the background, showing no jealousy, only concern. But Amy and her friends do not know Elise due to the time paradox.

Blaze the Cat

They met when Blaze was telling Cream that she doesn't need Sonic's help then Blaze said "Besides this Sonic sounds like...." Then Amy showed up and said "Sonic-Where is Sonic?!". Blaze was a bit angry at Amy budging her lines then Cream calmed her down and introduced Amy. Amy noticed Blaze, and thought that Blaze was in love with Sonic and even asked Blaze if she loves him , and warned Blaze by saying, "Watch out! I'm Sonic's girlfriend!". Blaze replied, "No, what I am seeking are the Sol Emeralds, I really couldn't care less about anyone called Sonic". There is also a part in which Amy tells Sonic that she has seen Blaze, Sonic quickly shows a spark of anger and says, "What?! You could have told us earlier!", Amy then speaks to herself angrily and says, " Oh please tell me why is Sonic after this girl!?", meaning that Amy thought that it is Sonic who loves Blaze. But, then Amy realized that they aren't romantically interested in each other, Amy then befriends Blaze and later sticks up for her when Knuckles is searching for Blaze to get back at her.

Reception

A Games Radar article called Amy's introduction "the only bitter taste" in Sonic CD, but added that "she's just a pink hedgehog here and not a whiny, annoying brat like in Sonic Adventure." [7] In an IGN article "Smash It Up", Lucas M Thomas stated that "one of the coolest things about Amy Rose's character is her enormous, walloping hammer" that is often used for comedy in the series. [8]

And in the ending of Sonic's Story (after beating the F-zone boss fight) in the credits shows Amy running after Sonic carrying her hammer and Sonic is trying to get away, in the end Sonic thought that he lost Amy and was relieved but then he saw her coming with an orange and grey hammer (which is larger than Amy's Piko-Piko Hammer) and she runs after him again. This large hammer is very similar to the one used by Knuckles in Sonic Advance 3.
  • Amy once had the power to turn invisible. The only game in which she could turn invisible was Sonic '06. After the time was erased, she hadn't turned invisible since (except in Sonic and the Black Knight, as Nimue).
  • Amy Rose is the only member of Team Rose that is affected by the brainwashing of the Overmind Voxai in Sonic Chronicles. It is possible that the other members weren't affected because Cream was an optional character (although it might be because of her innocence) and Big's too simple minded for brainwashing.
  • In Sonic R, Amy is one of two characters who races in a vehicle rather than on foot. The other is Doctor Eggman.
  • Amy's original hammer (In Sonic the Fighters) had a pink handle.
  • Many of Amy's rivals are females, mostly due to her thinking that they want to woo Sonic.
  • Amy is currently the only hedgehog in the games who lacks spikes coming from her back. (Her original design had three spikes similar to Sonic's.)
  • In Sonic Riders, throughout the story, Amy is wearing a different outfit, but in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity Amy wears her usual dress in the story and in the level where she races Storm. However, in the Multiplayer Mode of the game, she wears the same outfit, the one she wore in Sonic Riders.
  • Amy is the only playable character in Sonic '06 to not travel to the future at any time during the game.
  • Amy is one of the few characters in Sonic Unleashed who is not affected by the negative effects of Dark Gaia spreading over the planet. This is never explained in-game; however, it may be due to her attraction to Sonic, who is too strong-willed to be affected.
  • Amy is the only character that appeared in Sonic Rivals that didn't appear in Sonic Rivals 2.
