I do miss those days sometimes. The roar of battle. The crack of metal and bone. Good, honest conquest...

— Akhlut the Orca, Sonic Universe #84

Akhlut the Orca is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He is a mobian orca and the regional Egg Boss of the Northern Oceans Egg Army.

Appearance

Akhlut is a mobian orca with broad shoulders, a thick fin-like flap on each side of his head, and a cybernetic dorsal fin on top of his head. His eyes are green with black sclera and he appears to wear a mustard yellow and black uniform.

History

Past

Akhlut seems to have been at war with Tundra the Walrus and his men before joining the Eggman Empire.[3] After becoming the Egg Boss of the Northern Oceans Egg Army, Akhlut went on to menacing the denizens of the Northern Oceans for some time, leading his Egg Army in efforts to conquer the Great Blue Realm. As such, Akhlut would earn an infamous reputation across the Northern Oceans, like in the underwater city of Meropis.[4]

Shattered World Crisis

Act Two

During the Shattered World Crisis, Dr. Eggman ordered Akhlut to provide back up for his operations to reclaim his Eggmanland from the Naugus Twins (Walter and Wendy Naugus).[5] Akhlut was teamed up with Tundra, and was ordered to temporarily shut down the summoning spire in order to cut off the Witchcarters' supply of Dark Gaia energy. However, Akhlut mocked Tundra for not protecting his family, leading to a fight between the two Egg Bosses.[3] However, after Eggman gave him and Tundra a speech previously given by fellow Egg Boss Axel the Water Buffalo, the two Egg Bosses put aside their fight and completed their mission.[6] Akhlut soon fought against the Naugus Twins for control over Eggmanland, and returned to his base after the mission.[7]

Personality

Akhlut is thirsty for blood and war. He will purposely agitate his foes to create confrontation.[1][3] He is very smug and disrespectful towards his enemies, as shown when he mocks Tundra for his past failures. Despite this, he possesses some small amount of honor, not wanting his warriors to suffer.

Powers and abilities

As an aquatic mobian, Akhlut is capable of aquatic respiration, allowing him to breathe both on land and underwater. Akhlut also possesses great strength and fighting skills, seeming to be evenly matched with Tundra the walrus in hand-to-hand combat. He is also strong enough to shatter ice with his bare fists, as shown when Tundra froze his head and he punched the ice to get rid of it.

He is also outfitted with cybernetics that grant him limited psychic powers. With them, he can launch mental attacks on his foes until their minds are shattered, although strong-willed people can resist.[6]

Trivia

  • Akhlut's name is based off of the mythological tale of an creature with the same name that is in the form of an orca spirit that can transform into a wolf or even a wolf-orca hybrid in Inuit mythology.
  • Akhlut is one of three confirmed Grandmasters from the pre-Super Genesis Wave timeline to have become an Egg Boss in the new timeline, alongside Lord Mordred Hood and Conquering Storm.
  • The fact that Tundra and Akhlut are former enemies can be a reference to the fact that walrus and orcas are natural enemies; in real life, orcas are predators of walrus.
  • In Sonic the Hedgehog #261, the issue mistakenly refers to him as Ahkult.
