The Akatento is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is a mass-produced, ladybug-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman.

The Akatentos are based on ladybugs. They have round and red body armor, much like Motobugs, but with black spots similar to ladybugs, and gray edges. They also have wide and cartoony black eyes, yellow bodies, and a yellow tailpipe. Like Motobugs, the Akatentos mode of transportation is a single black wheel underneath their bodies. However, unlike Motobugs, they do not have arms.

After Sonic the Hedgehog thwarted Dr. Eggman in their last encounter, the doctor disappeared while his Akatentos and the rest of his Badnik army remained. Without a leader however, the Akatentos were directionless and no longer a unified threat.[1] Even so, they would still randomly attack anyone they came across[2] (although such incidents were more accidental than aggression-based[1]).

Trial by Fire

A group of Akatentos were eventually gathered at Tails' Workshop for an experiment by Sonic, Tails and Belle. There, Belle would transfer Motobud's nonaggression subroutine over to the Akatentos using the Miles Electric. When Tails then unveiled Sonic in front of the Akatentos, these Badniks would mind their own business in pleasant ways, making the trio's experiment a success. Later at night, however, the Akatentos received a beacon signal that compelled them to head to Eggtropolis.[3]

Basically, the Akatentos are mindless and silent drones programmed to follow their leader's every command. As such, when left without a leader to follow, they become directionless and only able to cause harm by accident. Under a guiding force, however, they carry out their commands without question.[1] Conversely, with their attack responses negated, they become quite friendly with pleasant mannerisms.[3]
