The Air Target[1] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a type of floating orbs that Sonic the Hedgehog can use to traverse the environments.
Description[]
The Air Targets are presented as floating and blue metallic orbs with glowing light blue stripes circling them.
Overview[]
In Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. the Air Targets' function is to provide "stepping stones" for Sonic to traverse the environments in the levels using his specific character abilities. When using the Air Target, Sonic targets it with a Homing Attack and homes onto it. This way, the Air Targets create a distant lock-on target for Sonic to home onto, allowing the player to reach out-of-reach areas and cross obstacles and gaps that the player cannot otherwise overcome. Air Targets can also appear in strings, allowing for a chain of midair dashes to cross wider gaps. Sometimes, Air Targets can also contain Rings that can be collected when hit. Others may disappear after Sonic hits them, only to reappear a moment afterwards.
To use the Air Target in gameplay, the player has to tap on the Wii U GamePad when in the air while near an Air Target.
