Air Ride Skill is an installable performance-enhancing component for Extreme Gears. Its actual appearance is unknown, though it is presented as an icon on the head-up display in the top-left corner of the game screen. In gameplay, the player can activate Air Ride Skill under special circumstances, which grants the playable character the ability to Air Ride, allowing the playable character to take flight into mid-air from Catapults/Kickers and pass through Dash Rings while gaining Air/Gravity Points.
Game appearances[]
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity[]
The Gear Part first appeared in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity under the name Air Ride. In this game, its icon is a yellow-colored circle with a black Air Ride type Extreme Gear inscribed in it. Here, Air Ride is a Gear Part permanently installed into only certain Extreme Gears.
In gameplay, Air Ride and its ability will be disabled when starting a new race. To activate Air Ride, the player must press one of the following buttons after collecting a certain number of Rings:
PS2
Wii
Wii Remote (sideways)
Wii Remote (vertical)
GameCube controller
When activating Air Ride, the player's Rings will be reduced accordingly by the number needed to enable it and the Extreme Gear is surrounded by an orange void, indicate the Gear Part coming into effect. The Extreme Gear itself will then physically transform into an Air Ride type Extreme Gear. The following Extreme Gears come equipped with the Air Ride:
The Gear Part reappeared in Sonic Free Riders where it is named Air Ride Skill. In this game, its icon is a darker yellow-colored circle with a yellow wing inscribed in it. Here, Air Ride Skill is a customizable Gear Part that can be attached to different Extreme Gears. It is one of the Gear Parts that can be used from the beginning of the game.
When using a Board-Type Gear, if Air Ride Skill is installed into the front slot, it becomes active in gameplay once the race begins. If installed into the rear slot, however, the player can activate Air Ride Skill via switching their stance by turning their body around due to the Kinect controls of the game. This motion will also deactivate Air Ride Skill if it was active.
When Air Ride Skill is active, two small, yellow wings appear on both sides of the Extreme Gear. The Extreme Gear also emits a high-pitched sound while riding.
