Knuckles[]
Before the events of the series, Agent Mason was a regular in underground street fighting rings. At some point he joined G.U.N., expecting to fight alien threats, but was relegated to a desk job alongside Agent Willoughby. The two used a Ring to send fellow agent Fairley to the Mushroom Planet, defecting in order to help The Buyer capture Knuckles. The Buyer provided Mason with a pair of gauntlets charged with one of Knuckles' quills, which gave him incredible strength. The two were able to capture Knuckles in the resulting battle, but Mason left behind a gauntlet, which was picked up by Wade Whipple, who proceeded to tail them to the IceCap Ski Resort. Mason and Wade fought, saying that being part of G.U.N. meant he "no longer had to fight fair." Wade accepted these terms, defeating him using unorthodox tactics and rescuing Knuckles. Mason and Willoughby soon met up with the Buyer in person, re-arming themselves and coming after Wade's family. They threatened Wade's family in order to capture Knuckles, though this plan was foiled by Knuckles overhearing the plan. In the end, Mason and Willoughby were sucked into a Ring portal during their fight with Knuckles.
Personality[]
Compared to his partner, Agent Willoughby, Mason appears to be more confident and easy-going, having no problem making quips and taunts during a fight, making small talk with Knuckles and Wade, and even pausing in his fight with the latter to answer a call from his mother. He was also unaware of why Willoughby chose to betray G.U.N. until they encountered the Buyer in person.
In addition, Mason is a truth-talker, as he told Wade that it was Pete's plan on capturing Wendy and Wanda to bring Wade and Knuckles into trap.
And despite the serious nature of those who work for G.U.N., he is shown to prioritize his family. It was shown briefly during a scene in episode 2, where Mason gets a call from his mother in the midst of fighting Wade, even asking Wade for help on what he should say.
