Portal 4-I or just 4-I, is a Cyber Spacestage in Sonic Frontiers. It is the ninth and last Cyber Space stage in Ouranos Island during Another Story, and the thirty-ninth and final one overall. It is a remix of 1-7.
4-I shares the basic Cyber Space theme along other stages, while presenting floating city locations strongly resembling Skyscraper Scamper from Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed and Speed Highway from console/PC version of Sonic Generations. As such, there are many streets and buildings present in the distance. The streets are layered with various signs as well as traffic signals, while the background consist of fast moving roads complementing the sky blue background with rapid, laser-like sparks also bypassing the screen to represent the digitized atmosphere of the stage.
Portal location[]
The entrance Portal to the Cyber Space stage is located in the north-east corner of Ouranos Island, situated along the western side of the smaller island, directly behind a Hermit Koco that Amy visits. It requires one Portal Gear for this Portal to connect to Cyber Space.
Gameplay[]
4-I is a relatively straightforward level with several branching paths made up of floating platforms. Throughout the level is an excessive amount of cars with serve as obstacles, background scenery, and platforming elements that can be bounced off of. Unique to this level is the fact that, unlike most remix stages, which follow the general path of their original level, 4-I is structured backwards, therefore making this level an uphill climb as opposed to a downhill one. Also unique to 4-I is that gravity of the stage is lowered, thus allowing Sonic to float through the air for much longer and reach greater heights, although his descent speed is extremely slow. There are no Star Posts present in this stage.
After rescuing the first animal, there will be some ramps that lead to a narrow loop, and from there into a cannon. This will shoot the player to a series of falling platforms and a large staircase-looking structure with ramps on the sides. After this, there will be a series of intersecting rings of cars with falling platforms in the middle of each, and the Number Rings will be on some of these platforms. Ring number 3 is not visible from where ring number 4 is, so it should be reached by avoiding the platform where ring number 2 is, taking advantage of the low gravity.
Silver Moon Rings[]
Continuing down the path after getting the Number Rings, the player will eventually reach three Rainbow Rings that lead to some falling platforms where a rail has to be taken to proceed. The first ring will be in plain sight on this rail, but the second one requires immediately jumping off the rail to a platform ahead and to the right to be reached. The third ring is on a rail after that platform, and the fourth requires a precise (due to the low gravity) jump through a ring of cars after the rail, with the last ring just after this jump.
Animals[]
- After the first cannon, there will be two large floating blue cubes next to the road. The first animal is on the second of these cubes, and the drop off zone is located on another cube reached by jumping across a few platforms.
- Right after getting shot from the cannon that brings to the Number Rings, using a stomp will lead to a section of the road full of cars. The second animal is at the very start of this section, requiring the player to walk back through the cars. From there, the drop off zone is on the other side of the cars, on a platform on the left side of the road.
- Continuing on the second animal's path, the player will eventually reach a short and wide tunnel section with ramps on the left side and more ramps visible ahead. The third animal will be around the center of the tunnel, and the drop off zone will be ahead, after some cars and a Boost Pad leading into a ramp that brings to a staircase of falling platforms to climb.
Hidden Goal[]
When reaching the goal's platform, the player should stop and notice some ramps behind it. Boosting off them will lead to a series of floating platforms, and from those a large cylinder of cars will eventually be reached. The hidden goal is at the bottom of this cylinder.
Trivia[]
The stage's low gravity may be a reference to a common speedrunning trick used during 1-7, where a runner can Homing Dash or Spin Dash from a high point in the stage down to the ending of the stage, thus flying over it.
