Portal 4-D or just 4-D, is a Cyber Space stage in Sonic Frontiers. It is the fourth Cyber Space stage in Ouranos Island during The Final Horizon, and the thirty-fourth overall. It is a remix of 4-3.

Description[]

Main articles: 4-3 and Chemical Plant

4-D shares the basic Cyber Space stage theme of being based on the specific depiction of Chemical Plant from the console/PC version of Sonic Generations. Having similar aesthetic elements seen in previous stages, the stage features rapid, blue digitized sparks being spotted on the screen during the gameplay to represent the digitized atmosphere.

Portal location[]

The entrance Portal to the Cyber Space stage is located near the center of Ouranos Island. It requires two Portal Gears for this Portal to connect to Cyber Space.

Gameplay[]

4-D is a short, but very open stage with a large amount of paths that tend to loop on themselves and can thus make finding one's way tricky. This is the first stage to feature the mine radar gimmick, where a large exclamation point will appear over Sonic's head when he gets close to a mine, with blue meaning he's still far away from it, yellow meaning he's approaching it, and red meaning he's near it and in danger of stepping on it. If he does, he'll be damaged and lose rings while flying up in the air and fail one of the missions. There are no Star Posts present in this stage.

Collectable locations[]

Number Rings[]

  • Following the section where the first Animal is located, the player must drop down to the left, past the lower path, onto on a series of floating platforms.
    • Number Ring 5 can be found near the bottom of these platforms.
    • Number Ring 4 can be found almost directly above Number Ring 5 on the upper platforms.
    • Number Ring 3 can be found to the left of Number Ring 4, dropping down.
    • Number Ring 2 can be found at the end of this area, on a ramp.
    • Number Ring 1 can be found on the section after launching Sonic off of the ramp, next to another one.

Animals[]

  • Near the start, the player should take a large loop on the upper path, which will launch Sonic to where a Cucky is waiting. Follow the path on the right, using the ramp to launch Sonic upwards, and the drop-off zone is after a pair of Dash Panels he must jump over.
  • Following a large loop, the player should jump on top of an archway, where a Pocky is. The drop-off zone is directly in front of it, but the player must take care to avoid the mines in the area. Despite this Animal being the second one on the path, it is marked as the third on in the HUD.
  • After the second Animal, the player should launch Sonic off the left-hand ramp to a series of floating platforms, where a Pecky is. The drop-off zone is directly in front of him, but on the lower path. Despite this Animal being the third one on the path, it is marked as the second on in the HUD.
  • Following the third Animal, the player should drop to a ramp on a lower path on the right hand side, and launch Sonic to the right. There will be a group of floating platforms similar in structure to the previous one, and a Rocky sits at the top. The drop-off zone is behind them, at the bottom of the path. Again, the player must take care not to activate any mines.

Hidden Goal[]

  • The player should veer to the right side of the stage, and follow a series of tilted, floating ramps and grind rails upwards. Sonic can Boost or use the Spin Dash to launch himself off of them. The final one will lead to a floating Spring (and the camera should be turned to the left as to not miss it), which will launch Sonic upwards to a rail with another spring floating above it. Follow this one up to another spring, which will get Sonic high enough to bring the platform with the hidden goal into view. The player should turn the camera so they will not miss it. Due to the looping nature and the low draw distance of the objects, this path can be particularly difficult to follow.
