Portal 2-6 or just 2-6 is a Cyber Space stage in Sonic Frontiers. It is the sixth Cyber Space stage in Ares Island, and the thirteenth one overall.

Description[]

Main article: Green Hill

2-6 is a location in Cyber Space, being based on the specific depiction of the Green Hill Zone from the console/PC version of Sonic Generations. This stage also incorporates elements from the Green Hill Zone previously seen in other Cyber Space stages based on it.

Portal location[]

The Portal connecting to the stage is located in a mossy area to the north of Ares Island, inside of ruins and east of the Elder Koco. Only single Portal Gear is required to be obtained in order to enter the stage.

Gameplay[]

In 2-6, Sonic will be encountering Propeller Springs, Hang Gliders and swinging iron balls. Switches scattered about the landscape would typically set up Ring trails, allowing Sonic to perform the Light Dash.

Overview[]

Sonic starts this stage by grinding on one of two Grind Rails, where there are springs on the end. The player will encounter a Motobug and have a choice of taking the Wide spring on the right to save time, or jump over the Dash Panel on the left and hitting the spring - up on the floating platform is a Super Ring, which requires a Double Jump. Otherwise, they should execute a Homing Attack on the Propeller Spring repeatedly to make it to the top. Jump over the short walls and turn left, where there's a Hang Glider that'll take the player to the Star Post. Alternatively there's a spring ahead of the Hang Glider which leads to the balloon and two further separate routes if the player wants to go for more rings. Most of them will lead the player to the Star Post.

Grind on one of the two rails, boosting to make it over the large gap. At the other end is another two rails which will go around a blind turn. The left poses a higher risk while the right is safer and has rings. These rails will meander downwards and then flatten out. If on the left rail, jump as soon as the rail flattens and use Homing Attack on the spring. Around the bend will be one Propeller Spring followed by another, but watch out for the Buzzers. Atop the second Propeller Spring is a Star Post, a dash panel leading to the next pair of rails, and a switch hidden behind some Wooden Containers, which will generate a trail of rings. Make sure to touch the Star Post before attempting to Light Dash the Ring trail.

The pair of long rails lead to some platforms around a large 'tree', where enemies can also be found. The player should go left and around the structure until they reach the top, where the next Star Post and set of rails are.

The rails lead to a complex looking area with swinging iron ball traps scattered on both sides and a brown bridge leading to higher ground. The player can also go for the three Super Rings halfway up the left side via the Propeller Spring in the center. Once on higher ground, go forwards where the final pair of rails are. Alternatively the player can head across the bridge on the left and press the switch, which will generate another trail of rings. This pair of rails split up, but they both lead to the Portal Gate.

Red Star Ring locations[]

  • In the first section of the stage, the player must take the right route with the two Wide Springs. The player then must bounce from the Propeller Spring repeatedly to reach the first Red Star Ring above them.
  • Once past the first Star Posts, the player has move to left of two Grind Rails, as the second Red Star Ring is located at the end of the Grind Rail.
  • While going around the cylinder, the player has to go right after taking the Propeller Spring where the third Red Star Ring is located.
  • Past the next Star Posts, the player has to take the left Grind Rail as the fourth Red Star Ring is found at the end of it.
  • After defeating a series of Moto Bugs and Buzzers, the fifth Red Star Ring is on top of two sets of swinging iron balls.

Trivia[]

  • The pieces of the linear layout of this stage are internally very similar to Sky Rail from Sonic Adventure 2.[1] Out of all the Cyber Space stages, 2-6 is one of the two stages along with 2-4, that isn't based on any of Sonic's memories since he never went to the original location. Original stage was accessible for Shadow in the Dark Story, while Sonic is only playable in the said-stage during the 2P Play Mode.
    • Interestingly, in an early trailer that was shown in E3 2000, Sonic was shown to be playable in the said stage instead of Shadow.
