2-4 shares the basic Cyber Space theme along other stages, while presenting floating locations resembling the specific depiction of Chemical Plant from the console/PC version of Sonic Generations. As such, there are tons of mechanical buildings and tubes throughout the setting.
Much like other Cyber Space stages, many half-pipe lines and chunks of cubes are seen in far distance of the reddish skies with rapid, blue digitized sparks bypassing the screen during the gameplay to represent the digitized atmosphere of the stage.
Portal location[]
The entrance Portal to the Cyber Space stage is located on top of a structure, reachable from the previous portal (2-3) by carrying on north-east through the rest of the tunnel route. The Island mystery 'Drain the water to move on' may need to be solved first to access the Ancient gate. The path rises to the higher ground, where a spring is required to reach this area.
Gameplay[]
The gameplay is set in 3D; the camera may occasionally rotate depending on the player's position. The level starts with a double loop. There are also swing poles, Rainbow Rings and moving blocks.
Overview[]
The level starts with Sonic dropping down from the Portal Gate. He will be running along a double loop before the road meanders downwards, where the player can opt to take the Giant Ring or continue onward. Once they land on the platform via the Giant Ring, take out the black Eggrobo that swoops down from above with a Homing Attack. Don't worry about falling off here, as a series of blocks will rise from below and create a staircase allowing the player to recover.
Jump to the top and Homing Attack the Buzzers to get across the gap. Atop this section is a Red Star Ring in the middle, some rails sticking out the sides advertised by rings, and a big drop up ahead, patrolled by a Buzzer which the player can Homing Attack on to reach it. Take the rail on the left (If possible), which leads directly to a road that loops down. If not possible, find the chain and take it to reach this road. The spring will take them to another swing pole. Mistime the first one and the player will need to go up some moving blocks. Success on both poles will allow them to run down the road towards a corkscrew which leads to the final section. Defeat the Eggrobo guarding the Portal Gate and close out the stage.
The first Red Star Ring can be found after the loop located at the beggining of the stage.
After collecting the first one, go into the upper path by using a Dash Ring and go straight forward in order to get the second one.
After the downward guiding loop section, the player will need to use the Horizontal Bar in order to get this Red Star Ring.
The fourth Red Star Ring is located right before a corkscrew near the end of the level.
After the corkscrew, the player needs to take the middle Jump panel in order to get the last Red Star Ring.
Trivia[]
The pieces of the linear layout of this stage are internally very similar to Radical Highway from Sonic Adventure 2. Strangely, 2-4 is one of the two Cyber Space stages (the other being 2-6) that is not based on any of Sonic's memories since he never went to Radical Highway. Radical Highway was only accessible by Shadow in the Dark Story, while Sonic is only playable in the said-stage during the 2P Play Mode.
It is also Sonic's second time visiting Radical Highway. The first time he visited the said-stage was in the Nintendo 3DS-version of Sonic Generations. Even there, it didn't make sense since, again, Sonic never went to Radical Highway.
Although for both cases, the opening of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle did feature both Sonic and Shadow in Radical Highway.
