The 100 Count Ring[1] is a power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. When the player obtains this power-up, one hundred Rings will be granted to the playable character at once. It can be considered a variant of the Super Ring. Since its debut, it has maintained its standard ability while getting new abilities added to it.

Description[]

The 100 Count Ring follows the same principles as the Super Ring. When obtaining a 100 Count Ring, the player is instantly granted one hundred Rings at once which are automatically added to the player's total Ring count. Rings granted by the 100 Count Ring function like regular Rings, as the player is able to lose them after taking damage and then recollect them. In some cases however, the 100 Count Rings have possessed additional abilities.

The 100 Count Ring appears only as a floating golden Ring separate from Item Boxes that is slightly larger than regular Rings and has the number "100" in its center. Like regular Rings, 100 Count Rings are obtained upon simply touching them. However, they cannot be targeted by attacks like the Homing Attack. When collecting a 100 Count Ring, a unique sound effect is played compared to the regular chime exhibited by Rings.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Unleashed[]

The 100 Count Ring made its first appearance in the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed as an unnamed power-up. In this game, it only grants Rings to the playable character. In gameplay, it can only be found in the nighttime stages. It is also by far the rarest of the Ring-based power-ups in the game, as it only appears in the game's last missions and stages.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate[]

In Sonic Colors: Ultimate, this Ring power-up is referred to as the 100 Count Ring for the first time.[1] In this game, in addition to granting the playable character Rings when obtained, it makes them invincible for a short time. In gameplay, it can be found in several Acts, typically in spots where 1-Ups would have been found in the original Wii version of Sonic Colors.
