Really, he should be retired like he was in Adventure. Nobody's gonna miss anything related to Classic Sonic, like Sonic 1, 2, 3 and CD. Really, he's nostalgia. He grew up. The games should be ABANDONED. Really. He's nostalgia pandering. I love the classics, but, I'm probably the last Classic fan. Sonic fans want nothing but Boost, Adventure, and Fronteirs.
Underground or Prime, or (Specifically the 4kids dub, NOT THE OG) Sonic X.
Why? Sonic would just outrun the dinosaurs or be in a cage, feeded to a dinosaur!!! If it's like, Eggman mechs, than, sure.

The reason why Classic Sonic fangames are praised, while when SEGA brings him back is weird to the average person. But, here's an explaination. Sonic Mania had people who had a big vision, ambition, as well as spirit. Sonic Superstars, on the other hand, is soulless, and lacks an identity, even though Mania reused levels. This is not a "Sega bad, fans good" argument, it's saying that if a project has ambition, spirit, and soul. What I'm saying is that these fangames have what Superstars lacked: Passion. A passion project is something someone curates, perfects, and puts their soul into. But, with what Sonic Team's director had said about Fronteirs' development, and Shadow Gens, Sonic might have a good future, unless the "Sonic Cycle" comes back. This was inspired by a Reddit post I saw. Especially a comment by IGN. It was just a bunch of BS. No offense to anyone who commented, or the OP, but, you really didn't understand the idea behind the project. Also, stop using Sonic fangames as a weapon against SEGA.

Imagine your that one Twitter/Reddit/DeviantArt artist who sees your art on Roku Channel or something. It would be just mind boggling XD. Like, at least make it match the show at the very least. If you never saw any DIC cartoon and saw the fanart, you'd think that it would be in the Sonic X cartoon XD.
Why do the DIC cartoons have mismatched art? Do they not care, just like SEGA won't give two shits about any American things other than Sonic Spinball. It's like SEGA just told them to take some images off Google or something. It's like they just kept the cartoons just for archival purposes. I'm surprised they kept them at all. Also, it's not like Underground has more like, 6 fans XD. At least AOSTH birthed some exellent memes, something Underground could never dream of XD
