Canonically, all the smash bros. fighters are just toys, so you could make the argument that sonic got caught because the kid playing with them wanted him too.
Don't see why they would seeing as they are all dead and their backstories wouldn't really contribute much to anything.
There is easily 2 points in the story where the fights could've happened, like for Chaos: before ghost town as classic sonic (mirroring fighting Chaos 0 before the first stage in Sonic Adventure) and for Shadow: after Sunset Heights as Modern Sonic. Maybe they got written out because of time-constraints or they couldn't be bothered programming a fight, idk.
@PinkSquid5 Pretty much yeah, I think by this point we have more than enough characters at the moment, along with new ones already made for IDW, so throwing the FF in the mix too seems a bit too excessive. The same can be argued for the games alone, hence why a lot of people were annoyed at first when they announced Forces was going to introduce a new character as the third playable character, because we have more than enough side characters already who have barely done anything gameplay or plotwise in the past decade, although everyone in the end gave that a pass since it was a custom character.
I don't want to ruin anyone's parade or anything, but I don't think it's happening. Sega wants the comics to be more in line with the games in terms of characters, world, personalities etc. The freedom fighters haven't appeared in any of the games (aside from the spinball cameos) and have nothing to do with them and honestly don't really fit with the world the games have, even after trying to redesign them in the reboot, plus they really were just carry-overs from a now 20+ year old show throughout archie's later run and probably just come off as redundant and dead weight to some people. Rotor in particular suffers the worst from this, since back during the SatAm and early comic days, he was meant to be "The smart tech guy" and Tails was meant to be "The little Kid," but now with Tails being given that exact personality for the 3D games, Rotor kinda comes off as redundant since he shares the exact same personality.
Plus Sega is terrified of another Penders situation, whether it be from him again or another writer who decides to sue them, and hated the whole "walking on eggshells" approach Archie had post-reboot, hence why they thought it best to start of on another completely clean slate and follow games closer, in addition to helping streamlining the brand a bit more.
I'm not opposed to them coming back, nor would I complain if they did, I just don't think it will, especially since Sega seems really intent on leaving everything non-game related from Archie to die. I don't think they would let IDW bring them back even if IDW wanted too.
The 10 hour thing is a play on how some people upload 10 hour versions of certain songs on Youtube (It's specifically 10 hours because that's the longest a non-livestream youtube video used to be able to be, although it's been extended to 12 now, people still mostly do 10 hours.)
