Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for Xbox Series X reached 88% score on metacritic. This means it definitely surpassed Mario Kart World for real this time.
Traxion has had the opportunity to chat with the long Sonic series producer Takashi Iizuka about the upcoming Sonic Racing: Crossworlds which recently had a successful open network test. Naturally when talk comes up about Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is kind of difficult not to mention Mario Kart World, which launched in June on the Nintendo Switch 2. Mr. Iizuka said that the company’s main goal was simply to develop the best Sonic racing game they could and he feels that the CrossWorld experience, which sees you race on another track momentarily, differentiates the games.
Sonic Racing Crossworlds is shaping up to be an excellent racing title which the game is only one month away from being released, but one thing that is a little jarring is that the DLC characters like Joker etc won’t be voiced. The game has numerous interactions between its cast of characters like Sonic and Tails. Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka says that the reason the additional characters aren’t voiced is mainly to easily facilitate the approval process for said DLC characters.
I just can't imagine the horrible smell of sweat build-up on that soft fabric after months of gaming sessions.
For many of you are wondering, SEGA has announced that Sonic Racing Crossworlds will be released in September 2025 in all platforms including the new Nintendo Switch 2 which is coming at a later date to improve the hardware experience. The company did reveal additional characters and non-sega IP characters is also making it's way into the game and more at a later date.
There is one particular thing that has not been mentioned. There is also a sneak peak video showing a CGI intro for the upcoming Sonic Racing Crossworlds that was posted on YouTube and it shows a vocal theme for the game. It's unclear who is the singer is or what band they are from, but we know it's not from Crush 40. We will get more info about the game and it's content down the line soon before it releases. The video can be view here.
A leak appeared earlier this week stating that both SpongeBob SquarePants and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are set to be in Sonic Racing Crossworlds and now we have actual footage of SpongeBob taking part in a race. The footage shown down below is from an early build and shows SpongeBob using the Extreme Gear and performing multiple tricks while drifting past the other competitors. Sonic Racing CrossWorlds still doesn’t have a firm release date, but we expect that to change after Summer Game Fest this week.
I'm gonna be honest & say yes because while the game is objectively atrocious, it has some merit such as the level design & soundtrack. It's also not completely unplayable.
Plus, there's already several bad games that are backwards compatible on Xbox such as the Silent Hill HD Collection, Perfect Dark Zero, Resident Evil Operation: Raccoon City & Dead Space 3.

One of the fairly surprising new announcements for this week’s The Game Awards was the announcement from SEGA to say that the enjoyable Sonic Racing franchise is making a return with Sonic Racing: Crossworlds. Sonic Teams Kazuyuki Hoshino Shun Nakamura and Katsuyuki Shigihara were all present at a special Indonesian Sonic fan meet event and they revealed a few tidbits about the long-running franchise.
One of the things noted was that Shun Nakamura, who was the producer behind the recent Sonic X Shadow Generations, reiterated to the fans that he would love to remake the disastrous Sonic 06, which launched on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in November 2006. He said all older Sonic games are on the table.
Looks like Xbox Series X surpassed PS5 from Sonic X Shadow Generations with 83% score on metacritic. What’s taking PS4, Switch, PC and Xbox One so long?

Any leak content on here be feature in the post will have their comments be reported. Not trying to be rude, I'm just telling you all here about it. Sonic Team producer Takashi Iizuka has chatted with IGN about the recently announced PlayStation 5 Pro console and whether they will be supporting the system. Naturally the upcoming Sonic game Sonic x Shadow Generations isn’t really pushing any visual boundaries, so there’s little they could add from a power perspective over the base PlayStation 5.
One interesting thing that came out in the interview is that the Sonic Team will continue developing Sonic games on lower spec consoles such as the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4, both of which still have a large audience, plus with the Nintendo Switch successor reveal is coming very soon being comparable to a portable PlayStation 4 console, that’s unlikely going to change anytime soon for them.
That's not all. They will continuing to support the Nintendo Switch, which is expected to have a next-generation update very soon by Nintendo, but in the meantime continues to chug along in its seventh year. Iizuka says that Sonic will continue to pursue a middle path between high-end platforms like the PS5 and lower-end consoles like the Switch, with the series adding enhancements or making compromises where necessary.
Polygon recently caught up with Shadow the Hedgehog creator and the head of the Sonic Team and boss, Takashi Iizuka, to talk to him about all things Shadow. At the end of the interview, Iizuka was asked which areas of the character he would like to explore in the future.
He replied by saying that “maybe in the future it’ll be interesting to come back and revisit Shadow being not so nice, maybe even as far as evil.” You will be able to play a batch of new Shadow the Hedgehog themed levels in the upcoming Sonic x Shadow Generations
