So, people have long debated whether or not the game is canon, and the answer is YES, it is canon and I'm going to tell you why with actual facts.
STEAM PAGE: Everything Is canon
People first say that the STEAM page says that the game is not canon which it does not. It says they are believing the power of Headcanon meaning it's your own choice it is not flat-out saying it's not canon nor is it saying it Isn't.
2. Timeline of events: Frontiers refrences
In the game Sonic mentions how his last adventure was the events of Sonic Frontiers which should say it there the game is canon. Not only that but the game shows Sage and Eggperial City and the Faceship from IDW (Which IDW is canon) is shown on Eggman's monitors in the background of the same scene.
3. References in other media: IDW Comics & Photos
Conductor, His wife and Barry all appear in Winter Jam which for those who don't know all IDW comics currently still take place before Frontiers. Meaning this shows them prior to the events of the game. Barry also appears in Issue 69 as snack vendor showing his experience as a butler which is what his role is in the game serving other passengers. But during the IDW media Sonic and friends did not meet him face to face.
4. IDW Line: Tails mentioning "Experience"
In IDW Issue 70 Tails while looking through a dumpster mentions how he has experience of there always being something in the trash the same thing Barry does in the game. Bu in the same in the previous Issue Eggman says how the latest event was the Eggperial City arc meaning it still pre-frontiers. Tails ends up finding nothing in the dumpster which leads him to believe you find nothing in there which is why he doubts Barry in game.
5. Official statements: Evan's statement
Now for those who don't know Evan made a statement on her Tumbler saying the game is not canon. But we don't know how official the statement is which could be her interpretation of it. Also, she goes on to talk about her Headcanon is that the game happens differently then why say it isn't canon if you're still acknowledging it as canon. Also, yes, I know she is part of the lore team but c'mon one person out of an entire team can dictate weather something is canon especially when the lore team worked on the game and the game itself states it's time placement which she says there is not placement for it. Also, it not being a SonicTeam title does not reflect canon as Dream Team is not a SonicTeam title and that's canon plus the vets are mentioned in Twitter Takeover.
In conclusion I could go on and on, at the end of the day if you think the game is not canon then I respect your opinion, but the real answer is that it is canon and takes place after Frontiers before Dream Team.
Cuz we all know that Sonic's still alive.

This looks like the Frontiers Uekawa mod, or Test Labs.
This is a very good animation, I really like it and it's imperative that TMOSTH gets more love.
