How would you feel if Sonic Team recycled old Sonic games to make new ones?
For example, Sonic & Knuckles was pretty much recycled from Sonic 3 to be made.
Before you regard it as unprofessional or lazy, here me out.
To this day, I keep asking myself, why didn't they just recycle Sonic Generations to make Sonic Forces?
Is it because the games were six years apart and the programming was already too dated to port? Is it because of the Hedgehog Engine, where the old wasn't compatible with the new? Why couldn't they reuse level assets from Green Hill and Chemical Plant instead of the ugly terrain they settled with for Green Hill and Chemical Plant?
When Sonic Generations came out, it was highly praised for its gameplay. Not just Modern-gameplay, where they polished the boost formula and designed stages to compliment it, but the Classic-gameplay as well, which accurately recreated the gameplay Sonic had in his Mega Drive years.
But by Sonic Forces, they decided to... start from scratch with both the Modern and Classic gameplay. And it was criticised for its poor physics, blandness and bad level design.
Wouldn't it of made sense to just... copy-paste the gameplay and physics from Sonic Generations? That way Sonic Team would have more development time and (if programming costs) money which they could then distribute to better level designs.
They literally had it, it's right there. But they didn't reuse anything for it.
Now, we have Sonic X Shadow Generations, games that Sonic Team have remastered from the ground-up.
So hypothetically speaking, let's say Sonic Team will release a brand-new Sonic game that makes use of the boost formula once more, one that isn't like Sonic Lost World or Frontiers in gameplay, just another boost-formula Sonic game. Maybe a remaster of Sonic Unleashed.
Do you think they should recycle SXSG to make it, or would it be worth-while to make it from the ground up like they did with Sonic Forces?
(I would've hypothesis if they remastered Sonic Forces, but honestly that game needs a complete overhaul in stage design and Avatar content. But if they did decide to remaster Sonic Forces, you think they will re-use assets from SXSG to make it?)
