Are the Sonic Mania special stages actually difficult or is it just a skill issue of mine?

Sonic fans, if you could pick your favorite version of the Sonic 3 victory jingle, which would you say is the best? Your choices are; Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic 3D Blast (Genesis version), Sonic 3D Blast (Saturn version), Sonic R race stats theme, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Pocket Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2/Sonic Heroes/Sonic Rivals/Sonic Rivals 2, Sonic 06, Sonic 4, Sonic 4: Episode 1 (Wii version), Sonic Generations, or Sonic Mania.
The metallic doppelganger who first appeared in Sonic CD is my fourth favorite Sonic character. While he isn't seen much physically in his origin game, the holograms of Metal Sonic show how cruel the robot is. While Sonic is carefree and willing to help others in a heartbeat, Metal Sonic is the opposite. He's willing to torture others to prove his superiority and prove he's better than his counterpart by any means necessary.
The Early Superiority Complex
While his role in classic games are for a short while, when he appears, you know the situation just got more dangerous. Metal Sonic only has one goal: destroy Sonic and prove that he's better in every way possible. Though he faces many defeats from his archenemy, Metal Sonic views defeat as a way to reanalyze and come back stronger than before. Sonic Mania and Adventures show his determination and persistence in doing so. In Sonic Mania, he transforms into Giga Metal, one of the precursors to Metal Overlord, showing how far he'll go to take down Sonic. Sonic Mania Adventures has him gathering all the Chaos Emeralds, and Metal will attack anyone who gets in his way. When he appears in front of Ray in Episode 4, he immediately gets freaked out by him. While he mocks his opponents sometimes, Metal Sonic is a cold, ruthless machine in battle, as he's willing to strangle Ray unless Mighty hands over the Chaos Emerald. These two games show Metal Sonic's agenda and personality well... in the late 2010s because, after Sonic R, which released in 1997, Metal would take a backseat until Sonic Heroes, where he returned to the franchise, and what a return it was.
Rivaling the Hero
Sonic Heroes expands more on what the classic games established. Metal Sonic will use ruthless tactics and undergo any form of ferocity if it means proving that he's better than Sonic. In Heroes, Dr. Eggman upgrades his creation into Neo Metal Sonic, intending to take down Sonic. Dr. Eggman's plan was partially successful. Metal Sonic had the goal but also had the freedom. He locked his creator, Dr. Eggman, in a vault and established himself as the Eggman Empire's ruler. However, not wanting to reveal himself to the heroes just yet, he creates robotic decoys of his creator so he can analyze their data and use it against them. When the moment comes, he withdraws from the shadows and faces the heroes head-on with his latest transformation. Metal Sonic Kai and Giga Metal are neat transformations of the robot, but his final form in Heroes, when he turns into Metal Overload, and you hear his fearsome roar, you know the action is about to go down. At this point, you start to understand Metal Sonic's goals. He fights for his purpose, to prove he's worthy to be called Sonic and surpass the original. Metal Overlord shows how far he's willing to achieve it.
Conclusion (The Future)
While Metal did take off a backseat in the 2010s, the future for Metal Sonic looks to be returning to his roots. Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps has Metal Sonic as the cartoon's main villain, and it shows how he's willing to drain Wisp of the life energy to be a match for Sonic. I like the character complexity of Metal Sonic. When Sonic pushes his limits, Metal Sonic wants to do the same. He won't stand idly and will take action, even if it's risky, like when he dips his finger into a barrel of Metal Virus condiments in the IDW Sonic Comic: Reflections. Metal Sonic is more than the robot enforcer of Dr. Eggman: he wants to prove to himself and everyone that he's better than Sonic in every way, proving that his existence has a purpose. It's a bittersweet but empowering story element that makes him an engaging character for me.

First here we got OG classic sonic
He is serious when needed and never gives up as he still doesn't completely know Eggman and his tricks. Always focused on his missions.
Now we got Mania/ Generations Classic Sonic
[Picture in the replies]
He is kind of a jokester, already knows what eggman could do, He doesn't worry too much and mostly just plays with the situation he's in if not too serious.
Where in the Timeline does Mania & Superstars come in? (Same with 8-Bit Sonic 1 & 2, Chaos & Triple Trouble)
I know the first 4
1
CD
2
3&K
But where does Mania and Superstars (And the 8-Bit games) take place in that timeline?
The guy who animated Albuquerque animated some of the Sonic Mania opening.
This means that Sonic himself could've been to Jerry's Bait Shop, y'know the place.
That at the saxophone part of Metallic Madness Zone Act 2, not only you can hear a saxophone but you can also hear an organ?
