Sonic Team producer Takashi Iizuka has chatted with IGN about the recently announced PlayStation 5 Pro console and whether they will be supporting the system. Naturally the upcoming Sonic game Sonic x Shadow Generations isn’t really pushing any visual boundaries, so there’s little they could add from a power perspective over the base PlayStation 5.
One interesting thing that came out in the interview is that the Sonic Team will continue developing Sonic games on lower spec consoles such as the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4, both of which still have a large audience, plus with the Nintendo Switch successor reveal is coming very soon being comparable to a portable PlayStation 4 console, that’s unlikely going to change anytime soon for them.
That's not all. They will continuing to support the Nintendo Switch, which is expected to have a next-generation update very soon by Nintendo, but in the meantime continues to chug along in its seventh year. Iizuka says that Sonic will continue to pursue a middle path between high-end platforms like the PS5 and lower-end consoles like the Switch, with the series adding enhancements or making compromises where necessary.
Eurogamer managed to catch up with the head of Sonic Team, Takashi Iizuka, to ask him all about the company’s upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations which is out this October. One of the main discussions were around the Shadow Generation levels and how they will contrast with Sonic’s levels. Iizuka teased that Shadow Generations level design will feature “a lot of iconic moments from Shadow’s past in the new gameplay” as the team really “wanted to tell a new story using a lot of these familiar locations to really present Shadow as a character to players that may not have gotten the full backstory of the character.”
“For the Shadow Generations level design, the team makes sure the levels are fundamentally created to be similar to the Generations-style level design with lots of high-speed action platforming that also incorporates additional features that work when Chaos Control is used,” he says. “From there, they continue to build upon the level design through iteration to add in things that can be done with the new Doom Powers as well, so you can not only run through in the traditional Generations-style gameplay, but also find new things to do with Chaos Control and the Doom Powers.”
Just don’t expect any “Classic Shadow” levels as with Sonic, although Shadow’s perspective will still shift to 2D at times. Levels will also be taken from throughout Shadow’s appearances in games, “featuring a lot of iconic moments from Shadow’s past in the new gameplay,” says Iizuka. “We wanted to tell a new story using a lot of these familiar locations to really present Shadow as a character to players that may not have gotten the full backstory of the character, as that happened over numerous different titles, and also make sure this single title could properly introduce Shadow as a character and highlight some of the important moments in Shadow’s history.”
Crazy Taxi series producer Kenji Kanno has revealed a few official details regarding the company’s long-awaited reboot of the fast-paced Dreamcast title. Kanno says that the game is being billed as a “completely new” open world Crazy Taxi title that can be played by many players at once and will feature brand new mechanics. The Crazy Taxi reboot will also feature a theme park-like map and motifs inspired by the US West Coast.
The game is being built using Unreal Engine and SEGA is currently looking to fill a number of positions including level designers, effects designers, character modelers, concept artists, and more.

Many of you were surprised when SEGA announced that Sonic Superstars would be launching the same week as the highly-anticipated Super Mario Bros Wonder. It certainly seemed a poor choice on SEGA’s part. Now SEGA has acknowledged that it made a mistake releasing in the same period as Super Mario Bros. Wonder in its English translation of a recent investor Q&A session.
The full Q&A questions is in the link right here.
Sonic Frontiers was a success for SEGA and the Sonic Team, not only in terms of sales was very massive, but also in creating and securing the template for 3D mainline Sonic games in the future. The Sonic Team spoke to Famitsu about the decision to release free content updates for Sonic Frontiers, which was a first for a 3D Sonic game to have a free download content.
The final DLC was the most substantial of the three and, with a little more care, could have been passed off as paid DLC. SEGA also mentioned that the game helps regian trust to Sonic Team and build a better relationship with fans base on their feedback. Here’s what Sonic Frontiers director Morio Kishimoto and producer Sachiko Kawamura told the Japanese magazine directly in the link that is shown.

Sonic Team head, Takashi Iizuka, participated in a number of interviews following Summer Game Fest as Sonic Superstars made its debut at the show. The intriguing new Sonic title is seemingly a project developed by Arzest, but Sonic Team Japan is helping out too. Speaking to VGC, Iizuka was asked whether they have any plans to bring any of Sonic Team’s classic franchises back such as Nights into Dreams or Burning Rangers, etc.
He informed the site that he is the creative officer for the Sonic brand, however, Sonic Team Japan has been on a hiring spree as of late and have more people than ever before, so he said that there’s a possibility we could hear something about a classic Sonic Team franchise being resurrected.
Now you might be wondering “Why tf did you get a PS4 Pro when your pc is perfectly fine” and it’s because why not, also I was originally going for a PS3 because it has more games, but then my dad tolled me to get a PS4 instead, also here is the PS4 (ignore the fact that it's messy and it's sideways)
Also, there are no Sonic games on it unfortunately, but hopefully, I would get at least Frontiers on it in the future someday, so yea I hope I didn't make someone jealous
Good news for Sonic the Hedgehog fans this afternoon as Christian Whitehead has confirmed that the recently unveiled Sonic Superstars will use the exact same physics has the acclaimed Sonic Mania.
The news should hopefully help put people’s fears to rest. Sonic Superstars launches on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, later this year.
Yesterday, SEGA and Sonic Team announced a new 2.5D Classic Sonic game that is called Sonic Supestars. The game will feature Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy as they defeat Dr. Eggman and Fang. Details are slowly coming in about the game, and there’s been some new information that has caught the attention of a lot of Sonic fans.
You see, Sonic series producer Takashi Iizuka recently spoke to IGN about Sonic Superstars. In the interview, Iizuka confirms that there will not be any returning areas from previous Sonic games. In fact, Iizuka quote.
“what we wanted to do with Sonic Superstars is really create something new and go in there and create these brand new islands that you get to explore as Sonic. We wanted to take Sonic to the brand new North Star Islands and have Sonic run around in this new environment. So we wanted to make brand new places for Sonic to go in this new title"
You may remember that Sonic Superstars, a new 2.5D Sonic game, was officially announced by SEGA at Summer Game Fest just a couple of days ago. Since then, details about the new Sonic game have been gradually coming in from various gaming media outlets throughout the day today.
Well, we’ve learned some significant news from Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka tonight. Iizuka confirmed that Arzest are the ones developing the game. If that name sounds familiar to you, that’s because Arzest is the team behind Yoshi’s New Island, Hey! Pikmin and Balan Wonderworld. Arzest’s president is the original character designer for Sonic the Hedgehog, Naoto Ohshima.
As for the music, the music director is Jun Senoue. However, Iizuka mentions that he isn’t working on the game’s music alone. According to Iizuka, Senoue is “working with internal teams at Sega to create music in that classic Sonic vibe and he’s also working on some external teams such as Tee Lopes who helped out on Sonic Mania”.

PlayStation 4 Prime Video, if you have to know.
Okay, this is a controversial game, I've heard, Most hardcore sonic fans say it's trash, and I don't get why, like sure the story is not the best but it's still fun. I get they did tails dirtier than dirt itself, but other than that and how sonic was overall written, I think it's good mainly because of the fun I have had playing it.
