Yes, I know, I'm making a post about this Sonic CD zone. Thinking of it while I'm finalizing my notes for Sonic 2's development timeline.
Okay, so Dubious Depths, also known as Ridicule Root, R2 or by the myth name of Relic Ruins, is a scrapped zone in Sonic CD. I found this bit of information about the zone by accident:
The zone is composed by Masafumi Ogata. (He composed SONIC STREAM and TECHNO POWER MIX on the Sonic the Hedgehog Remix album, both of them featuring remnants of Dubious Depths, and the Dubious Depths Present theme in the game [on the D.A. Screen])
So then, we have a good idea of how the zone could actually SOUND like in-game, aside from a present theme. My idea?
PRESENT: You know what this sounds like.
PAST: Similar to Ogata-san's interpretation of Collision Chaos for present and past, it features a lot more of a native vibe. A lot more ancient, maybe even a few more pads thrown in there. A lot like Tidal Tempest Past, another zone he composed.
GOOD FUTURE: Very techno-ish, with a similar relation to that of the GF version of Wacky Workbench, another zone he composed. Cue the 909 drums.
BAD FUTURE: Okay, unlike the techno of the good future, crank it up to 11. No organic instruments are featured, and a lot of elements in the song repeat. (Oh, and no orchestra hits- that's a Hataya-san staple!)
That's just how I'd do it. I might make my own interpretations of DDZ Past, GF and BF later on, but this is just my opinion. What do you guys think?
