That’s what retro/classic/mario fans get when ask for Mania 2 and this is what they get.

@Mystic Monkey Didn't Shadow's fur have a bluish tint is SA2? I'm sure they could give him that again to help differentiate them.
I was thinking that myself. Either a blueish or grey tint. The "slightly grey tinge" I was on about.
I also wondered if Modern Shadow had a brown tint... but could be the lighting or his yellow speed aura.
I imagine Dreamcast Shadow's gameplay would be exactly copy-pasted from Dreamcast Sonic, though if Shadow Generations wanted to, still give the same chaos control Modern Shadow has.
Dreamcast Shadow's story in mind is after defeating FinalHazard and falling to Earth, the "flash" was when he was taken to White Space. There he meets his future self.
When the two meet Maria in White Space, Dreamcast Shadow is sentimental to see them again, while Modern Shadow is reserved. Maria regards Dreamcast Shadow more "her Shadow" and maybe Modern Shadow feels a slight pang of jealousy and lament over it. However she still loves both of them, accepting Modern Shadow will be who Shadow will be after she is gone.
The adventure could have a disagreement between the two Shadows that Maria could resolve, in a way, Modern Shadow talking to his inner-child in resolving what's left of his past trauma. A trauma that's still fresh in Dreamcast Shadow's mind and partially resolved and moved on from in Modern Shadow's mind,
(I know technically the Perfect Chaos and Shadow boss fights may need to be replaced or altered to work exclusively for Dreamcast Sonic, I admit there are some inconsistencies that I don't have a clear answer for.)
There is a problem with Shadow seeing his future self though, that being that he would know that he survived the Finalhazard. That wouldn't line up with his own game as he would know he survived, rather than being unsure whether he's just a replica of the original.
^ ig you could excuse that as him actually losing his memory when he returns, like he was taken right before he actually crashes into earth, and after the story is done the canon event happens. After all, Shadow is never stated to have officially recovered all his memories after ShTH, he could have simply forgotten White Space until Generations, thus making it an stable loop
Not quite, given (canonically) sometime between SA2 and Heroes, Dr. Eggman recovered Shadow's unconscious body from the fall and put him in a stasis pod. When Rouge found Shadow and Omega, Shadow claims he has no memories from before.
Besides, Sonic seemed just as surprised to meet his classic-self in White Space, so past memories are inconsistent over present memories.
The more time passes, the more confident I am in saying that Classic Sonic was a mistake.
@Mystic Monkey I suppose if it was before he lost his memories then it would make sense, but it'd be sad to send him home only for him to get amnesia and be imprisoned immediately.
@Myself 123 I don't think including him in Sonic Generations was a mistake, but treating him like a separate character and turning it into it's own brand certainly was.
Yeah that would be pretty tragic... but honestly it's such a cool Shaggy Dog dramatic story. Imagine Dreamcast Shadow coming to terms with his grief so soon, but Shadow hides his knowledge that he'll lose his memory, and when he finally tells him, it's so heartbreaking because now he'll forget moving on and be forced to do it all over
Actually now that I put it that way, it would be SUCH a cool story I actually love this concept now
I agree Classic Sonic was cool for Generations... it's just they ran him into the ground with Mania, Forces, Superstars etc.
Not only that but... I never really liked the second acts of Shadow's stages because they were all side-scrollers for no real reason other than the fact Classic Sonic's stages were regarded second acts... or first acts, I dunno which order, but Shadow's second acts seem pointless homage of Classic Sonic's gameplay. (Radical Highway being the exception, where both acts were not side-scrollers.)
Dreamcast Shadow could've taken up the second acts. They can be like Modern Shadow's stages but more uh... well, they can be a bit casual pace but still about speed.
Same for Dreamcast Sonic's stages. If it's possible to play as Classic Sonic in Modern stages then it wouldn't take much to modify Classic Sonic's gameplay to be similar to Dreamcast Sonic.
(What peeves me off is Sonic Speed Simulator once not only perfectly replicated the Sonic Adventure 1 gameplay, but improved upon it with speed increase, but Reborn RUINED IT in favour of gameplay nerf's to be more standard to modern gameplay.)
And I've seen plenty of fan games that recreated Sonic Adventure gameplay so I don't see Sonic Team's excuse why they can't recreate it themselves. But all-in-all given they missed the opportunity to add Dreamcast Sonic and Shadow in SXSG I no longer trust them to re-adapt Sonic Adventure games without it ending up like Sonic Speed Sim.
@Myself 123 Blame ppl who were hating Sonic during the early 2000s. Classic Sonic wasn’t exactly made to begin with until retro/classic fans, including trolls went rampage over Sonic’s modern design when Sonic 4 was announced and then later Generations happened.
What do you think?
