Hello everybody. As you can gather from the above title, I am nominating myself for Administrator. I'm going to explain both how I got to this point as well as the duties & permissions of an Admin. The following - while long - is important and serious: even if you don’t read it all at once, PLEASE take time to read it from start to finish.
If we aren’t acquainted, I’ve been a user and an active member of the Discussion Board for a bit over 2 years. Mid-2023, I was honored to receive a sweeping and near-unanimous vote to become a Thread Mod [1]. I've strove to make good on that ever since: For example, in the past 3 months alone, I've performed 680 mod actions like locking or deleting posts that break the rules, according to the staff-special Insights page [2]. The tenets through which I’ve worked to earn everyone’s trust are vigilance, being friendly and considerate with every user, never being too busy to share my thoughts and participate in the occasional discussion, and having a persistent and positive sense of humor.
Recently, one of our Bureaucrats, SilverPlays97, expressed a desire to refocus on their personal life and as such intends to ‘dial back’ their role on the site to that of a Content Mod - think of it as one step under Admin - so that their responsibilities will be more manageable. To fill that vacancy in the management of the wiki, they suggested; as a vote of confidence; that I run for Admin [3], and so I am humbly seeking your vote to be promoted that I may step up to that call.
"What does an Admin do?" My tasks would include:
• Continuing my DB and Message Wall moderating duties as normal
• Utilizing special permission to apply blocks in the very rare case a user becomes troublesome
• Working with the other staff to keep the Main Page updated and to decide on and apply themes to the wiki
• Helping to run the monthly polls, Featured Article convos, and other community projects
• Working together with the SWZ's editors to aid and organize their efforts (perhaps doing some editing myself if time permits)
• Watching over the daily edits to revert any vandalism
• Checking in occasionally with the SWZ Discord to make sure all is well, as I'd automatically be an Admin there as well
• And various other ‘clerical’ jobs and abilities, like applying anti-vandal protection to important new pages
The weight of this promotion is not lost on me - it is EXTREMELY important. To any who may think that’s exaggerating, keep in mind the info the wiki provides was acknowledged in none other than the Sonic EncycloSpeedia: our ‘little’ site of 20k+ pages is nothing to sneeze at. I have made every consideration and believe myself capable of the role of helping keep this wiki. It will challenge me, but as I adapted to moderating so that it’s now second nature, I believe I’ll achieve the same for this role.
Those I’m acquainted with here know I am perpetually jovial, approaching things as amiable as I can be. Those same people will also attest that I play no games when professionalism is called for, whether that's voting for a Featured Article, expressing my thoughts on a proposal, or stepping up to vouch for the integrity of the staff. Affability and firmness both have their places in administration, and as an Admin I will apply both principles accordingly and appropriately.
To those I've come to know on the DB, these new responsibilities could mean I'll have a bit less time to chat and engage with you, but you can be assured I'll always be around, especially if there's anything you need, because as an Admin, the time I dedicate to the Wiki Zone would only grow. To the people I’d get to know on the editing side of the site, you already have my total respect for the work you pour into the wiki every hour of every day, and I'm frankly stoked at the chance to collaborate and work closer with you.
My commitment to this place makes me feel a sense of responsibility to take up this task. I have complete trust in the process, and welcome any feedback that comes with it, because whether my nomination's successful or not, it will ultimately be for the good of the Wiki Zone.
Last to go over are vital details about leaving your vote [from the URR page]:
5. You must disregard this if you’ve not made either 100 wiki edits or 100 DB posts here. Anyone who doesn’t meet one of those two criteria will have any vote they make skipped.
4. You are advised to provide a reason for the vote you leave, especially for an opposition vote: other voters ought to know why you voted the way you did.
3. You absolutely cannot discuss anything other than the promotion.
2. Half-baked answers such as "sure, why not" are UNACCEPTABLE. You’re expected to act tactfully, which translates to ‘you need to be serious.’
1. Most importantly: A yes vote must be typed as Support and a no vote must be typed as Oppose. It must be done this specific way or, similar to the earlier rule, your vote may be ignored. Voting Neutral is also an option if you have an opinion that’s somewhat flexible. To avoid a mix-up, use those 3 words only as your vote; only once; and never in conjunction.
