You see, these particular characters were created BEFORE the standards the franchise has set for themselves were even properly established, so trying to fix them is like making a new character, but with extra steps. So SeGa has cut out those extra steps with Orbot, Cubot, Sage AND THE ENTIRE PREMISE OF SONIC FORCES. Not to mention the fact that they had their own idea for the concept of Sonic’s girlfriend EVER SINCE DAY ONE or Tails’s character arc from SA1 that was unfortunately omitted in the notoriously bad Colors Era because the head director at the time had pretty much no idea what he was doing
