Hey guys, I'm Luma.dash, one of the wiki's bureaucrats. I hope you're all enjoying the latest update to Sonic Frontiers (and if not, hope you'll enjoy the upcoming Sonic Superstars instead)! Today, I want to discuss the wiki's name (the issues surrounding it) and what are the better substitutes for it.

This topic has been discussed before. While the majority back then opted to stick with the current name, it had not been out of being convenient, but because it is what "we'd been using all this time" and no better name came up. Today, after consulting with some admins over discord, I simply want to propose and discuss the better names we can come up with.

My reasons for bringing this topic again, is because:

1) We're a wiki.

2) We don't cover latest news or have journalists we dispatch to gather exclusive footage.

3) Sega and those working with it (Ian Flynn, etc.) already see us as an encyclopedia (composed of editors and administrators) as opposite to SonicStadium, Tails' channel whom they send screenshots or even review copies of yet-to-be-released games.

4) The name came up from the founder of this wiki, without much foresight on what objectives the wiki must accomplish to live up to the name. Right now, our only objective is to expand this site with articles detailing everything related to the franchise. As opposite to giving headlines to events happening to the series.

5) On top of all of that, the name is largely misleading on search engines: It does not mention that this is a wiki at all on search engines, it just pushes the "Sonic News Network" identity over all articles. And we're one of the few (if not the only) wikis in Fandom that don't identify ourselves with the "wiki" word over each article headline in search engines.

The substitutes we've come to discuss so far (in order of current support numbers):

4)Sonic Wiki <-> Sonic the Hedgehog Wiki (10)

7) Sonic Speedia (6)

Of course, feel free to suggest names of your own. Furthermore, feel free to disagree and state why you think our current name is better. If we can narrow down the selection to three or two choices, we can then make a poll to decide the final name.

Note: This proposal only changes our "wiki name", not our "sonic" sub-domain in "sonic.fandom.com".
