Now, you might find the title confusing since Sonic’s friends usually seemed to get along with the citizens, and the citizens usually acted like they love Sonic. Well, there’s a few things you may be forgetting. First, in “That’s what friends are for”, RIGHT after Sonic and his friends reveal their existence to the world, the President’s aide, Jerome, tries to have Sonic KIDNAPPED just to force him to go to the President’s victory party. THEN in the VERY NEXT episode, when Sonic’s friends go out in public for the first time, the humans stare at them like they’re freaks and make a bunch of condescending remarks, like calling them pets and wondering if a dog trainer taught Tails how to speak. Right off the bat, those faux pas should have made Sonic and his friends resentful of the citizens. Next, I’m not sure wether or not the Sonic X comic series should be considered canon, but in issue 15, when Eggman tricks everyone into thinking he’s Santa and tells the people to give him Sonic or none of them will get presents, they immediately sell Sonic out and try to catch him. Then there’s the worst example of all: “Sunblock solution/Eggman for President”. When it looks like Sonic has gone bad, everyone believes it after everything he and his friends did for them, and a crowd of people try to attack Sonic’s friends. And his friends didn’t even DO anything, the mob tried to kill them just because they decide his friends are “guilty by association”. And when it’s cleared up that Sonic was still a good guy, the people are just like “Sorry we tried to murder you! Our bad.” and APPARENTLY that was GOOD ENOUGH for Sonic and his pals. Now, I can MAYBE understand Sonic and his friends letting the first 2 incidents slide, but TRYING TO KILL THEM? Or selling Sonic down the river for a few presents?! If I were Sonic or one of his friends, I’d want revenge. I mean seriously, why would you want to be friends with someone who betrayed you and tried to kill you?
