It wouldn't because the game is regarded as a spin-off and not successor to the main Sonic series. Or else it wouldn't be Classic Sonic showing up in the Project '17 trailer.
Regardless of it not being a Mainstream Sonic game, I Still disliked it. It is this one game I look upon now and say in my head "Wow, this is one big pile of $&@% that not even SEGA can clean with a simple mop!".
I don't mean to bias to anyone who likes this game, but that's just how I feel about this.
I'm not saying I like the game, I'm just saying that yeah, it is a terrible game but the N3DS games wern't as bad nor should be judged by the reputation of the Wii U game.
After all, Sonic '06 was a terrible game and that doesn't make Unleashed, Colours and Generations awful. I found Sonic Lost World a poor game and the trailer of Sonic '17 looks by far promising over it's predecessor.
This is why I am open to the idea of a new Sonic Boom game for the major console, not for how terrible it's prequal was but it's potential to be good.
Agreed, Mystic Monkey. RoL is a very disappointing, flawed game, however, there was a great, great deal of potential. Just look at the first trailer. It showed the possibility of an complex, intriguing story, deeper insight to characters, and a good mix of varying gameplay. To be able to play the game shown in that trailer would be a dream come true.
If I could make video games (A personal dream of mine) I would be interested in leading such a project. I would find it a challenge and would ask if Bill Freiberger would co-write the story with me.
Actually, since the game has come out, I've actually jotted down several ideas for a better story and character backstories. I'm not a master script writer, but I'm not too bad #swearimnotarrogant.

You and I both know we disagree on ROL. But I can admit to you the 3DS games Shattered Crystal and Fire & Ice were more well received.
At this point, I just pray that SEGA has finally mopped up the mess and decided to get it's act together for Mania and Project Sonic '17.

Ibelieve they're gonna be good. I'm very eager to play them.

So am I. I haven't played Sonic in years, hopefully I get that chance.
I just woke up from this pretty awesome dream.
I dreamt I was playing the demo version of an upcoming Sonic Boom game. It was a lot like RoL but the combat was removed and the controls were similar to SC/F&I and Sonic Lost World.
The first hub was a forest at night (It looked a lot like the forests of Teldrassil) with secret caves leading to underground ruins for it's stages. Team Sonic had to work together to collect a single Dragon Ring to finish the stage. (I never played Fire & Ice yet so not sure what these rings are used for other than what the article states.) For some reason the friends realise they were being my hypocritical of their behavior which they believed was caused by either the dragon rings or some unknown power.
The second hub world was called "Tuff Towers", it looked like a grimey steampunk/industrial city. I remember in my dream there were these teleport pads that require you to press
to work to access the stages. It was then I was aware I was dreaming because I was playing the whole game with my mind. I went over and talked to someone who looked in charge and said that since Tuff Towers is a place about development, suggested I should make the required button I wanted to use to play the stage. After seeing some bubbles from a nearby quarrey lake which excited the locals I went to the teleporter and "dreamt up" a blue X button and I got to play as Boom Sonic climbing a cyclindrical tower with Parkour like abilities while digger bots (yellow robots that looked like digger trucks) erupted from the ground making him loose his rings.Given the game was WIP in my dream, Those digger bots were rather tough and still wasn't used to the Shattered Crystal/Lost World like controls. Just because it as an awesome dream didn't mean I win at this game. Sadly the dream ended before I could progress anymore but I was very satisfied with it.

Wow, that actually sounds kinda cool.
