Well, this is awkward.
It has come to my attention that some users have been a little unnerved by the decision to remove community consensus and instead have the wiki decide a team of three bureaucrats. However, about an hour ago before this post was made, the three bureaucrats (myself included) have come to the epiphany that maybe this isn't such a good idea. We've pointed out that having silenced the community out on their own wiki is not necessarily the best for the wiki and that the decision made has actually drove users away instead of bringing in new users. Therefore, the three bureaucrats have decided to revert the recent rule change, and we will bring community consensus back. As for the bureaucrats prior to the decision making, their rights will be kept. Sacorguy79 and Ultrasonic9000 will both hand over their bureaucrat rights, though Ultra will keep his administrator rights. I, however, have decided that, based on the nomination I had for bureaucrat rights (which was in complete support) that I will keep my bureaucrat rights, unless the community believes I should bring my nomination back up and have it continue to determine whether I keep the rights.
My reasoning for wanting to remove the bureaucrat team is because I've seen enough damage made within two days here than I have ever seen on SNN. A respected bureaucrat leaves, a former administrator questioning the decision making, and perhaps the most respected user and editor here believing it is a bad mistake is saying something. That is my sentiments.
Both Ultra and Sacor will post their reasoning for wanting to revert the system below:
Ultra's sentiments
- Hello everyone on SNN. This is Ultrasonic9000, one of the new bureaucrats as a result of the “Transitioning This Wiki Towards a Brighter Future (Removal of Community Consensus”discussion. First of all, I want to thank those who would accept me as one of SNN’s guides. I am glad to know you believe that much in me. However, I am afraid I have come to the realization that I, and my colleagues, are ill-suited for that position.
- Back on the site discussion, I know I said that I would accept the responsibility of the position I was offered if it meant helping SNN. However, in true Ultrasonic9000 fashion, I did not grasp the whole concept of it. At first, I believed that my new position only meant that there would come a driving force that would take initiative when things stagnated. What I did not realize however, is that I would become one of the ruling forces on SNN and that all the responsibility would be handed down on me and my colleagues while everyone else stepped down. I will say this short: it is not a position I am comfortable with, nor will I ever be ready for it (I have a lifetime of experience to back it up). I need others to make judgment calls in such cases because I lack the confidence to make choices like that, choices which experienced users like Myself, Gen, Supermorff etc. could handle. I also know my colleagues too, and I can tell that we are a chemistry that will only spell trouble (no offense guys). Sacor is too absent to play a role in this system and too lucid. I also know Blue well enough to know that when he and I agree on something, it will not necessarily mean a fair outcome for others. In other words, I do not think we are suited to have all that power, and we need diversity to handle the different situations that may occur here on SNN. This is something we will deprive ourselves of with this new system which requires us to cut the privileges from users more experienced that us chosen three; it leaves us with three inexperienced users with all the power and lots of experienced users with no power.
- In other words, I will gladly step down if I could. However, I will also do everything in my power to make things like before.
Sacor's sentiments
- The initial response invoked by the community has been of a negative nature, despite the substantial support for the Council System. I would be willing to give this system more time to evolve for about a month, but I must also respect the discomfort and consternation expressed by the other Council members, who feel as though we do not share a proper amount of experience to make important decisions as a group of three users, regardless of the community voice remaining somewhat intact. As such, should the community wish to revert back to our previous system -regardless of stagnation within the involvement aspect-, then I am willing to undergo these changes and step down from Bureaucratic status for the time being.
Conclusion
I apologize for any of the mess made during this, and hopefully we can forget all about this and go on with our normal, everyday lives. Rights will be given back to the former bureaucrats, community consensus is now back in order, and now everything will return back to the status quo.
