I'll try to make this short and sweet, for convenience's sake:
A short while ago I have discovered that there has been an apparent lack of proper moderation from the Chat Mods in regards to regulating use of foul language on the main chat. A couple users (I will not give out any names), upon my asking when I notice them use words such as "goddamn" on the main chat, have told me that use of such a word (and I'm assuming ones of similar vulgarity) is apparently permitted on the main chat, even though I was told by fellow Administrator Bullet Francisco that such language isn't permitted on the main chat when I brought the topic to his attention and, therefore, implies that there may be a lapse in effort from the Chat Mods to uphold the rules and policies they agreed to uphold. While I haven't heard of there being a range of questionable discussions being held on the main chat, I'm writing this reminder under the assumption that there has been at least one topic of a possibly inappropriate nature held on the main chat.
While I understand that there was a Fairly recent topic about rule interpretation that was brought to everyone's attention, I've been under the impression that what types of language permitted by the chat's language policy was made pretty clear upon the Chat's implementation to this Wiki, and that in at least this particular case it was generally agreed upon that relying on User interpretation for this policy would be completely unnecessary due to the fact that we're supposedly on a Wiki that aims to be more child-friendly with its readers when it comes to interaction from person to person (language quoted and used in articles is there for encyclopedic purposes and does not violate the swearing policy, in case anyone felt like bringing that up), regardless of whether interactions are held on the main Wiki itself or the Chat room. We do have some young Users here after all (and people who're bothered by foul language regardless of their age), and I don't think anyone wants to be directly/indirectly responsible for teaching some random minors language that their parents/guardians would find too colorful, along with the possibility of allowing other rules and policies to be eventually disregarded by this Wiki's general population -- after all, if we generally don't follow one single rule that we've taken the time and effort to establish within our general rules and policies, who's to say that everyone won't start disregarding other rules and policies as well? Because if no one speaks up it must be okay to do, right? Wrong.
At any rate, I just want to remind any Chat Mods and Administrators who go onto the chat to uphold all the rules and policies of the chat when they decide to go into the Chat room. If a rule or two starts to get disregarded by a fair amount of Users, then one of two things needs to occur:
1) Users need to be reprimanded/punished if deemed necessary, or
2) A Site Discussion needs to be made that proposes changes to the Chat Policies.
If a fair number of Users here feel that some policies on the Chat shouldn't be taken seriously/removed entirely, I would sincerely hope that you take the time to voice your opinions in a Site Discussion forum rather than risk getting yourselves in trouble with Users who do take a still-implemented rule seriously. On a final note, I'd like to say one more time that this reminder applies to language/general discussion held on the Chat Room's Main Chat. Private discussions between yourselves and other Users via Private Messaging can be about whatever you wish, as long as all parties involved have no problems with it. Same goes for the kind of language used in private discussions.
That will be all.
