Sonic Free Riders (jap. ソニック フリーライダーズ Sonikku Furī Raidāzu) ist ein Spiel für die Xbox 360. Es wurde von Sonic Team entwickelt und von SEGA als das dritte Spiel der Sonic Riders Serie veröffentlicht.

Handlung[]
Die Story beginnt mit Dr. Eggman, welcher einen zweiten World Grand Prix veranstaltet. Er versucht jedoch seine wahre Identität zu verbergen und tritt als King Doc auf. Er lässt vier Teams gegeneinander antreten, welche zeigen sollen, wer der Beste ist. Der Gewinner soll einen Preis bekommen. Diese vier Teams sind: Team Heroes (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles), Team Babylon (Jet, Wave, Storm), Team Rose (Amy, Cream, Vector) und Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, E-10000B).
Das Team, mit dem der Spieler spielt, gewinnt. Gegen Ende gibt King Doc bekannt, dass die Teilnehmer noch an einem finalen Rennen teilnehmen müssen. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt gibt er seine wahre Identität bekannt und erklärt, dass er die Daten der Teilnehmer von E-10000B sammeln gelassen hat. Er fordert die Teilnehmer auf, ein weiteres Mal gegen ihn anzutreten.
Der Doktor verliert und bemerkt, dass die Daten ihm nicht geholfen haben. Bald zeigt sich auch warum: E-10000B ist in Wahrheit Metal Sonic, welcher die Daten der Teilnehmer zwar gesammelt, jedoch falsche Daten an den Doktor weitergegeben hat. Metal Sonic fordert Sonic zu einem Rennen heraus. Als Sonic gewinnt, verschwindet Eggman, ohne den versprochenen Preis herzugeben. Trotzdem meinen die Charaktere, dass sie viel Spaß hatten.

Extreme Gear[]
Wie bereits in den beiden Vorgängern Sonic Riders und Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity werden auch in Sonic Free Riders sogenannte Extreme Gears verwendet. Sie sind eine Art Hoverboard, auf denen sich der Charakter fortbewegen kann. Jeder spielbare Charakter besitzt seine eigene Auswahl an Extreme Gears, zusätzliche Hoverboards können während des Verlaufs des Spiels freigeschalten werden.
